On a whim, I gave a shot at searching the free death lookup that the Italian Genealogy Group in NY created ( http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeathSearch.stm ) and I found Patrick there! Unfortunately, the index only goes up to 1911, but I have no doubt now that Ellen died in NYC as well in 1914. I've placed an online order for Patrick's death certificate. Thanks again, Bill.

Janet , Are you the JONES cousin who lives in Paris ? I just got an email from a lady who will check the Benson , VT cemetery listings. Hope she has some answers for me / us . Here is some information I found on Comfort PETERS , at the Ft. Wayne , IN library . History of Bradford County , Pennsylvania 1770-1878 by The Reverend Mr. David CRAFT ( 1992 reprint edition ) ( Original printed 1878 ) p. 303 Column two, 7th paragraph In 1808 , Deacon Asa HOWE , took up a farm near Helen Budd's , and gave the locality the name of Howe Hollow thereby. Comfort PETERS settled on the Pettibone farm the same year , and Sheldon GIBBS came in 1809 to the same neighborhood . Both of these men were basket-makers , and peddled their wares through the country roundabout , even as far away as Owego. For this reason the road on which they lived was called Basket street , ans still retains its early cognomen , and it the road leading from C.H. BALLARD's to Austinville. Phineas JONES came in about the year 1808. He was a brother of Mrs. Comfort PETERS , and came from the same locality. He removed in 1818 into central New York. End. Pioneer and Patriot Families of Bradford County , Pennsylvania 1800-1825 by Clement F. HEVERLY p. 142 Last entry on this page . Comfort PETERS , who enlisted in the Revolutionary was at Douglass , Mass., came to Columbia township in 1808. He was a noted basket-maker and supplied a wide section of country with his handiwork. In 1830 he sold to Daniel GREGORY and returned East ; died April 9 , 1833 at Swansey , N.H. , aged 78. Comfort S. GENEBETH and Wilmot PETERS were evidently his sons. p. 226 JONES - Asa , Phineas and Stephen JONES settled in Columbia in or before 1812 . Phineas was a brother of Mrs. Comfort PETERS ( p. 142 ) . The JONESES sold in 1818 and removed to Central New York. End . Charity's older brother , Phineas died in Conquest , Cayuga Co, NY & if I remember correctly , this is where Charity ended up living out her life. But as you can see , by the above source , Comfort PETERS died in NH. I haven't found the information that says Comfort's widow filed for a pension , but it was denied , as Charity was still alive & still married to him. When I come across it , I will email it to you. Cousin Brenda

Marshal (sic) and wife, with their only child, only two and a half years old, started from their home in Clarendon, for Rutland, in a sleigh. On arriving at the crossing of the Rutland and Burlington Railroad, in North Clarendon, Mr. Marshal attempted to drive across the track as a train was approaching, when the engine struck the sleigh, and threw Mr. Marshall (sic) up in the air, he coming down about 60 feet distant, and dashing his head against the depot with such force as to break a board. Altho' alive at last accounts he probably cannot recover. Mrs. Marshall was thrown upon the track, and fourteen cars passed over, killing her and mangling her in a shocking manner. The child received a blow upon the back of the head, crushing the skull and causing instant death. Mr. Marshall was about 33 years old, and a manufacturer of chairs at North Clarendon. He was in the army for two years during the rebellion, serving in a Vermont regiment. He and his wife were widely known, and the accident causes a painful sensation in the community. They were going to Rutland to have a picture taken of their child. There is a deep cut in the road where the accident happened, so that Mr. Marshall could not see the train nor the engineer him, but the whistle was blown and the bell wrung. (Note: Myron E. Marshall appears to have survived the accident. He is listed in the 1870 census as a manufacturer, age 34, in Clarendon. According to the "Vermont in the Civil War" site, he died in 1877 and is buried in Chester, Vt.)

Thanks Brenda! I believe we may of talked before. Comfort is my line. I have come to the conclusion that Comfort may of married Prudence first, she died in childbirth. He then married her sister Charity. No concrete evidence yet, but a good theory. Have not located a thing about his first wife. Where in New York did they go? I found Charity and Comfort's son (Comfort S) near Attica. Which razes another question, Why was Charity living with Comfort's first wife's child? Janet , I don't have any information on Prudence beyond her birth in Killingworth , CT. Do you have a marriage date & spouse for her ? Charity did marry , in 1806 , to Comfort PETERS. They removed to Bradford Co, PA for a time. Then they removed to NY state sometime later. ( I believe I have the county name & year in my files . ) Comfort PETERS was a widower , with children , when he married Charity , but things didn't seem to go well in that marriage. Apparently , he went his way , but didn't get a divorce & married a third time in another state. I will check my files for this information & sources. Brenda
Am also interested in any information on this family, especially Prudence and Charity. Did Prudence die from childbirth in 1801? Thanks!
