    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0AC.2ACI/2682 Message Board Post: Marion Daily Star (Marion, Ohio) March 4, 1885 A revolting story of the inhuman treatment of Ida Terry, thirteen years old, by her guardian Joseph White and wife, comes from Wallingford, Vt. The atrocities were found out by a neighbor who was aroused by the girl's cries and visited the house. Her feet were blistered, Mrs. White having compelled her to stand on a red-hot stove until it was unbearable. One mode of punishment was to thrust pins through her ears and fasten her to the wall. Another, driving a needle through her tongue and tacking it to the window sill. The pair were arrested and received only a slight fine. Next night masked men visited the house, beat White, and ordered him to leave town. (1880 census gives name as Ida Ferry, living with Joseph and Addie White in Wallingford.)

    1. Cannon Loveday Enquiry Autumn 2004
    2. My former neighbor Mrs. Donovan was a Cannon and said that the family was from Co. Dublin as indicated on the Calvary gravestone but were ultimately from County Donegal. I didnt get get an idea of whether the Donegal connection was recent or ancient before they came to America. Her father a railroad man who lived on the corner of Forest and River St.? in Rutland would be summoned to work by a youth known as the "call boy" who was to gather the train crew when it was time for the train to go. I think Mrs. Donovan's sister is the last remaining sibling in this family. Dorothy Anderson has some Rutland Loveday listings on the Rootsweb Co. Westmeath Message Board. Peter Patten
