My last name used to be Cecchine, but my email is still the same. The records I have were from a microfilm I requested through the family history center. I can't remember the number off the top of my head. Each section had an image that made a statement such as: Rutland County, State Of Vermont Naturalization Records Volume 1836 - 1852 filmed 1973 Public Records Division I really don't know a specific source to get the records that were after 1906. I think the film went up to that year, but as I recall, there were not many of them after the 1870's in that film. Seeing they were from a public records division, I am sure there must be a way to look up such a government office in vermont for that and give them a ring. If you are able to locate the source, please let me know and that way if I get asked again, I'll be able to tell them. Are there any family names you need looked up that would fall during the 1800's? (multiple posts) There are about 2100 Naturalization records which I indexed, which include some very valuable and detailed information at times. Other times it's a 'bare' record with minimal information. A majority of these records are from Irish immigrants. As we've learned, Many Irish records were destroyed and making connections in the homeland can be near impossible. These Naturalization records are AWESOME because of that great loss of information. Thank you! My grandfather Michael McCormack was naturalized in the early 1940 era. He arrived from Co. Kilkenny in 1906, but was not sure he wanted to stay until after he became a grandfather! I have found his ship and roster from the Ellis Island site. I would like to know where to find his naturalization records. He worked for his Uncle Thomas McCormack also from Kilkenny who had a marble quarry in Danby/Dorset area. He moved to West Rutland before 1912 as my father was born in 1912 in West Rutland, so West Rutland would have been his home at the time of his naturalization.I need to know where to find those records. My cousins have been unable to find Thomas McCormack's earlier naturalization. I believe he lived in Dorset, but it could have been Danby. Thank you so much for sharing! Hi Cathy, There are naturalization records in City Hall for the Municipal (Rutland City) Court and the USDA I found at NARA but the court was in Burlington. I believe there was also a Court in Fair Haven but I'm not sure when or what was there, but I will check on it when I go to the Historical Soc. My gr grandmothers brother, John Winters was naturalized in Burlington and I think it was because he served in the US Army in the Civil War and didn't need character witnesses. I don't know where, other than NARA thoes records would be. As far as I know the Rutland records have never been put in a database and I only found out about them abt a yr ago. I'd be glad to look up any names when I go to City Hall again. Rosemary Catherine Habes <[email protected]> wrote: Hi, Rosemary, The LDS microfilm of Rutland County naturalizations (FHL US/CAN Film 972835) is from Rutland County Court. The LDS library also has an "Index to New England naturalization petitions, 1791-1906". This index has about 70 microfilm rolls that combine the states of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont . You send for the roll with the "soundex" code for the surname you are interested in. I didn't need to use these for the names I was interested in but from the description it doesn't appear to be the full record. The index gives name and location of the court that granted the naturalization, date of naturalization, and volume and page (or certificate) number of the naturalization record. These seem to be the only sources for naturalizations that LDS has that would pertain to Rutland, Vermont. Just out of curiosity, do you know if the municipal court records or the USDA records are accessible there locally in Rutland or perhaps through the State of Vermont? Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Jan. 20, 1928. RUTLAND, VT. GIVE SURPRISE PARTY TO H. F. BIXBY, 91. Civil War Soldier Receives Unexpected Visit From 7 Grand Army Comrades. Hascall F. Bixby, Civil War veteran, was given a surprise party yesterday afternoon at the home of his son, F. E. Bixby, 7 Sheldon Place, by seven Grand Army comrades on the occasion of his 91st birthday. The old soldiers spent the afternoon in playing cards and Mrs. F. E. Sheldon served supper. Mr. Bixby does not show his years. Apparently having the physique of a man scarcely more than 70, he is able to walk about the streets daily, unaided, and takes a keen interest in current events. Born in Shrewsbury, January 19, 1837, Mr. Bixby made that town his home until 1902 when he moved to Rutland. He was employed by the Rutland railroad for 30 years and for a decade was section foreman at Cuttingsville. He enlisted at Burlington September 6, 1861 in the Fifth Vermont cavalry and fought in the Peninsular campaign, and also at Antietam where he was wounded. He was mustered out January 28, 1863. The veterans who gave the surprise party yesterday were Col. D.L.Morgan, Charles Young, commander of Roberts post, G. A. R., Eben Bishop, Charles Bailey, James E. Post, George Brown, Charles H. Granger and James W. Greaves. ps. Hascall Bixby was my husband's great grandfather. Transcribed by, Joan H. Bixby

Cathy, Are the records from the LDS from the County Court records? There were naturalizations from Municipal court, County court & USDA Courts. I don't see where the court is listed and was just curious. Thanks for all your info, it is a tremendous help. You find more than we do and you don't even live here. Amazing!!
