Author: stonepegger Surnames: Butler Regan Reagan Ryan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.vermont.counties.rutland/4792.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Charlotte Morris in Fair Haven could prob. give you a lot of info on the Regans as she was mixed in somehow through the Ryan family. The Regans were out of the West Castleton area, County Sligo prior to that (see Rutland County naturalizations on this board.) Bryan Regan is listed in Beers 1869 Rutland County Atlas in West Castleton. The Regan farm consisted of what is now Half Moon State Park (actually in town of Hubbardton), The homestead stood until the 1970s when it fell victim to arson after sitting empty for several years. Jack Regan ran the farm for years and there was a bachelor uncle Barney further up the road. There are still a few old West Castleton hands around who could give you some Regan anecdotes. As for the Butlers, either Clyde or Bernard had a daughter living in the Burlington area but Charlotte could fill you in on that. I do know there were two Irish Butler families living in the Poultney-Fair Haven area traditionally, so you might want to keep that in mind if you do any research. Author: weehawkin Surnames: HARRIS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.vermont.counties.rutland/4793/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi all, I did find a relative's Draft Registration on Ancestry, his date of birth is 5/29/1888, from Waterville, Nova Scotia. He emigrated to the Boston area first, then to Vermont. On June 5, 1917 he signed his draft registration form saying he lived in Rutland. The trail goes cold then. I can find nothing else - no census, no marriage etc. so could anyone in Rutland area help with my brick wall? I know back in the 1990's we heard rumors of Harris relatives in VT but nothing concrete. He, Paul Harris, did have two sisters - Ruth (my great-grandmother), and Bessie (Elizabeth?) who also emigrated to the USA. Thank you! Author: cathabes1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.vermont.counties.rutland/4791.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't think any of the online newspaper websites carry historical newspapers from Rutland County. However, microfilms of many Rutland County papers are available through interlibrary loan. I've gotten the Rutland Herald, Rutland Globe, Rutland Herald and Globe (they merged) through interlibrary loan. I've seen others, such as the Rutland Courier, Fair Haven Era and the Poultney Journal, listed as available. Consider checking with the interlibrary loan department of your city library. "Worldcat" (world catalog) is a research database showing what years and titles are available for interlibrary loan. Many libraries give their members access to "Worldcat". "Worldcat" can also show you libraries to visit where microfilms are available. Sometimes historical societies or universities have copies of microfilm in fairly farflung areas. I've seen limited years of Rutland County newspapers available in California, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, New Mexico, Massachusetts - if you are lucky, perhaps some microfilms may already be available at a location close to you. Also Dawn Hance and Joann Nichols have compiled booklets of extracts from the Rutland Herald for the years 1792 through 1830. For information about their booklets you can email [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
