    3. Thank you very much for your information. I think that William R Owens born 1887 married Catherine E (maiden name unknown) Born 1890 and had 2 children Jeanette/Janet M & William H - On 1920 census they were in Ohio and in 1930 back in Poultney. I think I can dismiss Mary Roberts as a relative now so I will try to track the Welsh roots to find the earlier link between the Owens and Pickerings as well as trace the rest of the descendants of Robert W Owens and Jane Thomas. Many thanks for all your help. He mentions the children of Hester Hummiston (who is deceased by 1856 probably in Rutland, Vt where she is found in 1850). They are listed as Rollin, Isaac, Julia, Alvira, Roxanna, Asahel 2nd, Eunice. All but Rollin as listed as minors under the age of 21 and it is also mentioned that they reside somewhere in Wisconsin. 1. [VTRUT] Mary Roberts, in Poultney, Vermont in 1910

    3. I was wondering if anyone can help me unravel the complexity of an entry on 1910 USA federal census, In Poultney Vermont there is Mary Roberts (widow) born 1866 in Wales mother to Edith Roberts age 7 and Elvira Roberts age 5. With them is William R Owens born in Poultney, 1887 and the census says he is the brother to head of household (Mary) . There is also a Thomas Edwin Pickering in the household which has been transcribed as 'brother' but I believe should be boarder and I am wondering if this may also now be the case with William R Owens too. William R Owens parents were Robert Owens and Jane Thomas both born in Wales in 1854 making it highly unlikely that he was brother to Mary as that would make her parents only 12 at the time of her birth! I am trying to trace both the Pickerings and Owens lines as Thomas E Pickering is definitely from my family line as he was a cousin to my great grandmother and when she died in 1907 her husband then married a Elizabeth Emily Owens so I am trying to find out if these two 'boarders' were in fact related. If anyone can tell me how to confirm the maiden name of Mary Roberts, I would be most grateful. I will try to trace any sibling of William R Owens but if you can be of any assistance I would be most grateful. Many thanks Jackie Cheshire, England.

Minot Farmer had several children from a previous marriage. Minot was living in Chazy, New York in 1826-1838. Minot married Lucinda (Hickok) Stiles after her husband Daniel Hickok died in 1826. Minot Farmer, Lucinda (Hickok) Stiles/Farmer, Leonard Farmer, Lucretia Farmer, Lucius Stiles, Rueben Stiles, Rachel Stiles and Irena Stiles left Chazy, New York to settle in Troy, Pennsylvania. Minot bought land in Troy Township in October 1838 from Ebenezer Avery  He sold this land to Lucius Stiles and Julius C. Farmer in March 1839. Minot was not living in Troy, Pennsylvania with Lucinda in 1840. Lucinda died in Troy, Pennsylvania in 1865. I was unable to trace Minot from 1840 in any record in the U.S. There is a Minot Farmer in the 1841 Canadian census. Ansel D. Farmer was born in Rutland, Vermont. Ansel lived in Marquette County, Wisconsin in 1850 with his wife Harriet and family. Ansel died in Inverness, Michigan in 1870. Personal family trees posted show Ansel to be the son of Minot Farmer and Polly Hoisington but I was unable to link Ansel to Minot Farmer with any records. 3. The Brock house is no longer there. I can't tell you the exact year it was torn down but, it couldn't pass fire codes and would be to expensive to fix it. At the end it was used to house the Sisters of Saint Joseph. It is now a parking lot for Christ the King church. I think the Rutland Historical Society (www.rutlandhistory.com) would probably have a more recent photo than the postcard. What was the family name? He was born in North Granville eighty-eight years ago, and went west when a young man, where he and Miss Electa Weaver of Batavia, Ill., were married, and to them were born three sons, James G., who died some years ago, Edward, who died in infancy, and William. Deceased was one of the most congenial hotel proprietors this section ever knew, and conducted the Poultney House, Crescent Valley house at Pawlet, Inn at North Granville, and the hotel at Middle Granville at different times. In 1890-1 he managed Hotel Hygeia, also called "Oakdale" at Lake St. Catherine a splendid hostelry on the site which now belongs to A. G. Schmidt of Bronxville, N.Y., and which constitutes a very popular settlement during the summer season, with its Lake View House and several cottages. This hotel was very well patronized, and Landlord Brown's cordiality and attention, coupled with a first-class cuisine, was responsible for it.
