    1. [VTORANGE-L] VAUGHAN/VAUGHN Family of Vermont
    2. MRS MARION E BASS
    3. Hello everyone! Is anyone researching VAUGHAN/VAUGHN's in Vermont? My ggggrandfather, John VAUGHAN, lived in Grand Isle County, VT. He married, sometime between 1790 and 1800, Abigail STARK, daughter of Capt. John STARK and Eunice ADAMS, of South Hero, Grand Isle County, VT. Around 1803, John and Abigail VAUGHAN moved to Chazy, Clinton County, NY, where they remained until they died. John was born circa 1776, place unknown; Abigail was born circa 1780 in Pawlet, Rutland County, VT. I have been unable to find out anything about John's ancestry. I recently tried using the census indexes to see if I could find some potential candidates for the position of John's father. My most likely suspect seems to be William VAUGHAN of Strafford, VT as of the 1790 census. His household has a male child in it who is the right age to be John. There's a William VAUGHAN in Alburgh, Grand Isle County, VT. in the 1800 census, which at least puts him in the right area for John to meet up with Abigail in South Hero. In fact, William's the only VAUGHAN in the vicinity. In the 1800 census William VAUGHAN's household also lost a male household member in the right age group for it to be John getting married between 1790 and 1800. I've checked the genealogy of the descendants of John VAUGHAN of Rhode Island, but all the John VAUGHAN's who match up with mine agewise are accounted for with other families. Is anyone else researching this Vermont family? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me with this! Marion Bass Email at [email protected] com
