You are correct about going to the town clerk's office. That was the only way we traced another ggg grandmother's maiden name. I had written to the town clerk, asking for a copy of the marriage record. I gave them the groom's full name and the date of marriage. I told them I needed to know the bride's name. I sent $5.00, and received back only the information, "can't read the name". Personally, I don't believe that they even looked. My uncle went their personally, read the record with no trouble. He had no pre-conceived idea as to the name. I find that some town clerks are wonderful, but others seem to resent being bothered, even when you pay. Guess they are human, like the rest of us. I'm not sure how a warranty deed would help. Could you explain? I did use the will and probate dates of a gg aunt to determine the approximate birth of a g grandfather, and the death dates of his grandparents.
