Anyone can check for an ancestor that may have served in the Civil War here: http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm I didn't find a Russell Back. I'm not sure if this is 100% complete. Have you checked to see if the deaths were registered in Braintree? They may have the cause of death.
