Hi Arnold, Looks like you & I are distant relations. My great grandmother Zina Whitney Jones was the daughter of James Pierce Whitney & Rosina Goodell Whitney. James father was Joseph Whitney and Joseph's father, who was my 4th great grandfather, was Abel Whitney. Abel came with some of his brothers from Pepperll,MA to Tunbridge,VT in 1791. Their father was Benjamin Whitney and all were descendants of John and Eleanor Whitney who came to Watertown,MA in 1635.There's a Whitney Hill in Tunbridge and Watertown, both of which I've been to. In Tunbridge many of the Whitney homes are still standing today. I was able to make the connection between my MA and VT Whitneys with the help of a book at the University of Vermont in their special collections department. Fred Farnham Whitney, who was a life long resident of Tunbridge, wrote the book in 1977. Although he didn't include all of the names of the Vermont Whitneys he did list several not in his direct line which was lucky for me as that's where I found my 3rd g grandparents listed. The book is no longer in publication. since it's in the special collections dept and therefore can't be taken out or gotten through interlibrary loan ....I'll try to get up to the University on a day I have off either this week or next and see if there's anything on the 2 women your'e looking for. I also have an address for VT Vital Records in Middlesex where all town records are now held. It's late and I need to be going to bed but will look tomorrow to see where I stored the information and then pass it on to you. I also have the address of town clerk in Tunbridge where they still have some records stored and website address as well of Tunbridge that may help. I'll send that on to you tomorrow too if you want. I also have tons of info on the Whitneys both in VT and MA if your'e interrested. Also have photos of trips to Watertown,Tunbridge including some gravestones.Let me know if any of this would help you and I'd be glad to share it with you. Well gotta hit the hay as 6:30 a.m. comes real early. Catch ya tomorrow "cousin". Noreen Maloney LaTour Burlington,VT P.S. It's ironic that your last name is Stewart .....my daughter is now a Stewart through marriage and thus so is my granddaughter. If I ever get my family tree done I may do my son in law's.....maybe I might need a hand or two from you then.
Hello Noreen, I just realized I have a 7th great grandfather named Benjamin Whitney through my Sawtell line. Could you tell us more about your Benjamin Whitney? Perhaps references I could check. Noreen, How nice to hear from you. I have been wondering for some time how I am ever going to find the parents of my G G Grandmother Eliza Whitney. It was a great feeling to receive your message. I guess I didn't think I would hear from anyone right away. I am a retired Boeing Engineer who was born and raised in Michigan and became interested in genealogy several years before retiring. The family bible had a death recorded for Eliza Whitney Rice and we had no idea who she was. Several months ago I was contacted by a researcher who had Eliza married to my G G Grandfather Samuel Arnold. Ever since then we have been slowly getting more and more information about her children. Now, maybe with your help we can find who her parents and ancestors were. I recently purchased at a used book sale a book titled The Whitney Family of Connecticut by S. Whitney Phoenix but so far I have found no family in that book that would connect to Eliza. My Stewarts came from Cape Cod in early 1700. A John Stewart married Agnes Harvey in Brimfield, MA and I am a descendant of their son John Harvey Stewart who raised his family in Bloomfield, NY. I am looking forward to hearing from you again.
