    3. Greetings: ** Please do not "REPLY" to this message in such a way that the response goes to the list, unless you believe that your response truly is for the whole list to see. ** It is with a sense of sadness that I announce to you that a sudden, unexpected, and very significant change in the demands on my time will require me to turn almost all of my RootsWeb list administration duties over to someone else. I enjoy what I have been doing for the lists, and I wish I could continue. There are three lists that I will still admin; if you are reading this message, this list is not one of them (or is LISTOWNERS-L, which is receiving an FYI copy). The choice of whether to continue being an admin for any list, and if so which one(s), was a very difficult one for me. For the curious, this is not a disaster, like a death in the family, a health problem, or the loss of my job. Life has just taken a sharp turn, and I need to be flexible enough to reset priorities and move on to the new challenges and opportunities that present themselves. Beyond that, I hope you understand that it is a personal matter that I will not be discussing except with immediate family. I encourage anyone who may be interested in being admin for this list to contact me. For each list, if there is more than one person qualified, I will pick the person who in my opinion is best suited to support the list and move it forward. This will *NOT* be "first come, first served" in any way, shape, or form. To the extent that it is a contest, all the entries are already in. It may be a matter of weeks rather than days before the list changes hands. If there is no interest, the RootsWeb staff will be informed and the list will be handed back to them. I will of course be available for assistance to the new list admin, for a while. I have come to appreciate and know many of you, over the last few years, as you have posted messages ranging from brick wall queries; to long pedigrees with documentation; to announcements of births, marriages, and deaths in your own families; to Christmas greetings. That is one reason why for most of "my" lists I will remain a subscriber. As Bilbo Baggins said, quoting from memory, "I know less than half of you more than half as well as I would like; and more than half of you less than half as well as you deserve." ** Again, make sure that any replies that go to the list are those that belong there. Please send any requests to take over the reins to me, privately, *ONLY*. Thank you. ** Darrell This message is being sent to: VTGEN-L@rootsweb.com, VTCALEDO-L@rootsweb.com, VTLAMOIL-L@rootsweb.com, VTORANGE-L@rootsweb.com, MANORFOL-L@rootsweb.com, ALLGAR-L@rootsweb.com, CANDY-L@rootsweb.com, CANE-L@rootsweb.com, FELCH-L@rootsweb.com, CLAN-FORBES-L@rootsweb.com, FORBES-L@rootsweb.com, FORBUSH-L@rootsweb.com, FURBUSH-L@rootsweb.com, GARDNER-L@rootsweb.com, HARTWELL-L@rootsweb.com, HULBERT-L@rootsweb.com, KNOWLTON-L@rootsweb.com, LAMSON-L@rootsweb.com, LOWER-L@rootsweb.com, NELSON-L@rootsweb.com, ROUSSEAU-L@rootsweb.com, RUSSEAU-L@rootsweb.com, WILDGOOSE-L@rootsweb.com RootsWeb List Admin - 5 VT and 1 MA location lists Darrell A. I didn't find a Reuben/Rueben/Ruben that I could identify as the right one in the earlier censuses because they don't show household member names, but I did find these: The 1840 has 2 Norton families in Starksborough, Calvin and Chandler. The 1830 has 3 Norton families in Starksborough, Calvin, Porter, and Woolcot. Hope this helps, and good luck! 1. [VTORA] Charles Avery
    2. Carolee McKay
    3. I am trying to find information on Charles Avery - according to a family document he was born in Thetford, VT in 1763. He married Mary Maltby in Vershire (?) in 1785. The had 10 children - Charles, Benjamin, Ira (Ira fought and was severely wounded in the Battle of Lundy's Lane in the War of 1812), Jeremiah, John, Electra, Mary and Catherine. I am not sure of the names of the other 2 sons. I have not been able to find a connection to any of the Avery records that I have found, so I do not know who Charles' father or mother were. I have found Charles (I believe) in the 1790 Vershire census and the 1800 Thetford census. I don't know if the Benjamin and Ira Avery's that I have found in later census records are the correct ones. If any of these people are in your research, I need all the help I can get. Charles has proven to be a total brick wall. The copy of the letter I have (written by his grandson, William) just says that the first Avery in our family came to America in 1630 - to Barnstable, MA. He just goes on to say that "eventually they made their way to Vermont" where his grandfather, Charles was born. Thanks, Carolee Avery McKay

    1. Re: [VTORA] Sally (Jones) Avery - Corinth Vermont
    2. George, Thanks for your responses about checking the History of Corinth book. I have the pages from the Groton Avery book that lists Christopher's wives and children, and also Smith Putnam's info. What I didn't have until a couple years ago were the parents of Smith Putnam's first wife, Betsy Nichols. (No parents are listed for her in Groton Avery book.) Then, thanks to a 3rd cousin, Jim Colby, who I'd met at the Colby Clan reunion in Orange County in the summer of 1998, and who had taken us to various cemeteries with some of my Avery ancestors, I got a big break. Jim checked the Vershire township records that fall and within minutes had located Hezekiah Nichols as Betsy's father, and Lois Kelley as her mother. I then tracked several generations of Hezekiah's ancestors. What I don't have, however, is any information on Lois Kelley's ancestry. I just have that (Mrs.??) Lois Kelley (a widow??) and Hezekiah Nichols were married on 30 Sept 1807 in Vershire, VT, and that Betsy was born 17 Jan. 1809 in Corith. Lois died about 1815 in Corinth. Anything more on Lois Kelly would be greatly appreciated! Sally Jones may remain forever without parents! I'm looking forward to the Colby Clan reunion in Orange County again this August. Thanks! Janet K.

    3. I apologize for my note saying there was no mention of Christopher Avery's family in the History of Corinth!! I used the general index and did not use the genealogy section at all. There is an extensive genealogy of Christopher Avery's family including all children by first wife Sally Jones and second wife Sophia Lund. It does not give parents for either Sally or Sophia though I will continue to look. Also gives names of both wives of Smith Putnam and list of children by both wives. If you wish specific information I will transcribe it for you. sorry for misleading you, must learn to use indices!! 1. [VTORA] HINKSON - Corinth Vermont
    2. Scott and Jennifer Will
    3. Hello, I have traced my ggg grandfather Benjamin HINKSON to Corinth, Vermont. He was born about 1777 and married Sarah SAMPSON in Bradford, Vermont 20 February 1801. Benjamin moved to Amity Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania in 1818. He is last located on the 1850 US Federal Census for Amity Twp. Erie County PA. He was 73 years old. Does anyone have any further information on this family? I have reason to believe that Benjamin's parents may be John HINKSON and Anna CHAPMAN, but I cannot find a firm link to prove that this is the right connection. Any help you can give would be very much appreciated. Regards, Scott - Erie, PA --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now
