Greetings: During the coming days, it will be very important to keep in mind that RootsWeb is provided for its subscribers to discuss matters related to genealogy. Political discussions may be particularly painful and divisive where worldwide consensus on the rightness or meaning of events does not exist. All RootsWeb list admins have been reminded that this rule is to be enforced, kindly -- but firmly. That is what I will do. Your anticipated cooperation is appreciated. Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? Please tell you friends in genealogy about this
Hi All, I am in search of documentation connecting ancestor Solomon Beeman to his parents Elijah Beeman and Patience Hatch. Elijah died in Orange County, Strafford, VT in 1833. I was hoping that there might be a will or obit for Elijah naming his son Solomon somewhere of which I could obtain a copy. Would anyone know where to find copies of old wills?? Or, does anyone on the list know of this family?? Thanks for any suggestions. Marge McNeill

TUCKER in his History of Hartford, Vermont records the following marriage of Justus Savage: Justus, b. Aug. 5, 1803; m. Nov. 15, 1836, Eliza Alger of Strafford, Vt., b. Aug. 5, 1806, (dau. of Aaron and Lusina (Powel) Badger). He d. in Strafford, Vt., April 9, 1888. The error being: Eliza ALGER was not the daughter of Aaron and Lusina (Powel) BADGER, but was the daughter of Aaron and Lusina (Powel) ALGER. TUCKER mistakenly mixed up the name of ALGER with BADGER, and was published accordingly. This confusion is perpetuated on websites which have Lucina Powell marrying Aaron Alger and Aaron Badger; Lucina dying in 1803 and remarrying in 1810; Lucina is given an unsubstantiated middle name of Law. I would like everyone to know that Lucina only married Aaron Alger and lived to be 90 years old. She was the administrator of her one and only husband when he died in 1841, recorded in the VT 1850, 1860 and 1870 living in the household of Justus and Eliza Savage and family; had son Albert Alger who married Harriet Lawrence, who had a daughter Harriet Philena who married Elihu Finney - my great great grandparents. It would be extremely appreciated if any obvious errors are spotted on websites from here to the planet Mars, to have them corrected. It would also be nice to hear from the many cousins out there waiting to be found!!!!! Charles Anderson
I've "rescued" a very old letter written by Rapsima ADAMS BROCKLEBANK and her husband Capt. James BROCKLEBANK on the 20th day of March 1853. Based on limited research I believe they were living in Plainfield, New Hampshire at the time. The letter does hold many clues regarding their family and their life. Some of those clues are: 1. They own two farms and note that Moses lives on the Canaan farm. (Moses is either Rapsima's brother or their son) 2. Frank is living at home. (I think this is their youngest son D. Franklin BROCKLEBANK age 19) 3. They were to Glover in the winter to see Miranda BLISS. (I think she is their daughter) 4. They also visited in Tunbridge in the winter. (this is where Rapsima was born) 5. Seth will also write. (Rapsima's brother) 6. Permelia lives at North Enfield now. (I believe she is their oldest daughter) 7. Amy lives in Lacon, Illinois. (also their daughter) 8. Cyrus is to New York in the powder wars yet. (their son) 9. Laura has gone to Charlestown, Miss. to stay with Sarah. (both daughters age 16 + 29) 10. Mary is with Miranda. (their 21 year old daughter) 11. James BROCKLEBANK was 58 years of age on 9 November 1852. 12. Rapsima ADAMS BROCKLEBANK was 59 years of age on 16 December 1852. 13. Uncle Thomas was 75 years of age on 19 January 1853. 14. Aunt Becca was 63 years of age on 31 July 1852. (Rapsima's sister who died in 1858) 15. Ransom is about home now, rest of children are close, except Cranson (referring to Uncle Thomas & Aunt Becca's family I believe) 16. Letter is signed by Rapsima "your affecate sister". 17. Someone has written "Father ADAMS sister" above her name and noted ADAMS as her maiden name. (her brothers were John, Moses, Seth, and Jonathan ADAMS) 18. Refer to their children as scattered about the country so I'm assuming those referenced earlier might be their children.(#6-10) My limited research tells me that Rapsima ADAMS was b. 16 Dec 1792 at Tunbridge, Vermont to parents Jonathan ADAMS (b. 27 Sept 1767 at Rowley, MA to John ADAMS and Maribah STICKNEY)and Phoebe BROCKLEBANK (b. 3 Jul 1769 at Rowley, MA)married James BROCKLEBANK on 26 Jan 1817, had 9 children and died 29 September 1879 at Plainfield, NH. James BROCKLEBANK was b. 9 Nov 1794 at Plainfield, NH and died 28 October 1859 at Plainfield, NH. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old piece of family history can be preserved by the family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
