I am also from the Eastman Lineage. My grandmother was born in Topsham, VT. My great grandmother was an Eastman. Her father was William G. Eastman of Topsham, VT. His father Thomas Eastman of Topsham, VT. I believe Thomas father is David Eastman. Also looking for an Eastman reunion in VT. Sheila
Recently say information saying my Benjamin BEADEN/BEDEN/BEEDEN, was born in Strafford, Orange co, VT. That's where my Judds were, and one of them married Benjamin in Genesee co, NY. I have not found a BEDEN in Vermont 1790 census. Has anyone seen this surname in Orange co? Thanks for any help or suggestions. Margaret Calvin
Hi, I'm new to this list and am looking to identify who William Mills' b. May 1800 in Topsham, parents are. I have been going though the early Orange County census records and below are the possible people that could be his parents or related somehow. 1790 Newbury Township: John Mills - 3 over 16, 3 under 16 and 3 females (I believe he was from Chester, NH?) Nathaniel Mills - 1 over 16, 2 under 16 and 2 females (I'm wondering if his father is John Mills above? I believe he married Catherine and I do not know her last name?) 1800 Newbury Township: John Mills is living in Newbury and now a John Jr is also reflected here. John Mills (the elder one) - Males: 3 age 16-26, 1 over age 45; Females: 1 age 16-26, 1 over 45 1800 Topsham Township: William Mills was born in May of this year based upon what his death certificate below states (his death certificate did not state who his parents were). The census only reflects that Nathaniel was living there however, I'm not sure what month this census was taken and maybe this was taken prior to the parents moving here and Williams birth occurred. Nathaniel Mills - Males: 2 age 0-10, 2 age 10-16, 1 age 26-45; Females: 1 age 0-10, 1 age 26-45 1810 Orange County: The 1810 census reflects the following Mills families in Orange County with a 10 year old boy that could be my William Mills. Topsham Twp: Nathaniel Mills above has 2 boys between 0-10 Topsham Twp: David Mills has has 2 boys between 0-10 Orange Twp: Daniel Mills has has 2 boys between 0-10 (I have been told he had a brother named William born in 1767) Randolph Twp: Rueben Mills had one boy between 0-10 (I believe he is the same Rueben Mills who was living in Stanbridge, Canada in 1825 living next door to a William Mills who is probably my William Mills note that his son was born in Stanbridge in 1834 below.) Newbury Twp: John Mills had one boy between 10-16 Bradford Twp: Archibald Mills had 4 boys between 0-10 who according to VT Vital Records did have a son name William who was born in 1802. Bradford Twp: Wm Mills had 4 boys between 0-10 (I believe he married Jenny Glines?) Is someone able to provide information on the Mills above and/or know how they relate to my Mills family below? My Mills Family: WILLIAM1 MILLS was born May 1800 in Topsham, Orange, Vermont (birth data is according to his VT death certificate), and died April 14, 1884 in Andover, Windsor, Vermont. He married ELIZABETH HAWKINS Abt. 1833, daughter of JAMES HAWKINS and ELIZABETH. She was born December 1808 in England (maybe Ireland conflicting info received), and died November 08, 1873 in Andover, Windsor, Vermont. I believe by 1825 William and Elizabeth were living in Stanbridge with one daughter born. I do not know where they met or married. The 1870 Federal Census reflects that Elizabeth Hawkins Mills and their two sons Leonard and Lyman Albert were living in Andover, Windsor Co., Vermont with the HOWE or HOME family. William was not enumerated with them and may have been in the process of moving from Canada. This census reflected that Leonard owned $600 in real estate. The 1880 Federal Census reflects William Mills was living alone in Andover, Windsor Co., Vermont living by himself. He was 80 years old, he was a widow and his occupation was a farmer. It reflected that he could not write English. William's death certificate reflects he was a farmer and a widow. His death certificate reflects he was 83 years and 11 month old at the time of his death. His cemetery marker reflects that he was 86 years old at the time of death. WILLIAM MILLS and ELIZABETH HAWKINS were both buried in Simonsville, Windsor, Vermont2 Children of WILLIAM MILLS and ELIZABETH HAWKINS are: iv. WILLIAM2 MILLS, b. May 22, 1834, Stanbridge, Quebec; d. July 04, 1920, Stowe, Lamoille, Vermont. He emigrated from Canada in 1851, and married Julia Davis of Enosburg on 4/19/1858, the groom's residence was Underhill, Vermont. v. JENNIE MILLS, b. Abt. 1847, Stukley, Shefford Co., Quebec; m. (1) M. J. BROWN, April 02, 1867, Williston, Vermont. These records reflect the bride was living in East Canada; m. (2) ISAAC Foster SMITH, May 01, 1903, Weston, Vermont. vi. LEONARD MILLS, b. 1849, Ely, Shefford Co., Quebec; m. MINNIE WARREN, February 25, 1874, Andover, Windsor, Vermont. vii. LYMAN ABERT MILLS, b. 1852, Ely, Shefford Co., Quebec; m. EMMA T. JOHNSON, July 01, 1874, Andover, Windsor, Vermont. Note: They probably have more children than I'm aware of. Hello. Betsey Eastman married Samuel Cooper and they lived in Richmond, VT. That is in Chittenden County, VT. Have not been able, so far, to get the death cert. for Samuel or Betsey as there was a flood or fire there and all old records were destroyed. This week, will go to the County level. Also looking for Levi Eastman. My Stone line is from Waterbury, VT. I am researching Laban Stone, my 4th ggf, Orvand Stone, my 3rd ggf., who married Elsy Cooper. No Stone's are buried in Orange, VT. My Parker line is from Northfield, VT. Betsey Parker married Thomas Houghton. Thomas was from Putney, VT If anyone wants a lookup for Waterbury, VT, Northfield, VT or Waitsfield, VT just let me know as I have the town histories of these towns. Marion Stone Raaen MRaaen@aol.com

Hi, I'm looking for information about the Ford family. Before 1790 this family went from Braintree, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts to Braintree, Orange County, Vermont. Between 1810 and 1820 they moved to Perry, Lake County, Ohio. And, finally, between 1840 and 1850 they moved to Lyndon, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. My family moved to Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin after 1910. I'm also interested in information about families associated with the Ford's: BATTLES, BECKWITH, BEMIS, BENSON, BRACKETT, BROWN, CAIN, CARTER, CASTLE, CHASE, CLARKE, CUSHMAN, EASTMAN, EDSON, ELLIS, FLINT, GIBSON, GOOCH, GOODELL, GOODWIN, HAYDEN, HOLMES, JENNIE, JOHNSON, LAMB, LAMSON, LIEBL, LIVERMORE, LOVELAND, MANN, MARTIN, McMURPHY, MITCHELL, MORTON, MOULTON, NORTON, NORWOOD, NUTTING, OSGOOD, PALMER, PARKER, PARMLY, POUND, PRATT, RICE, RIFORD, ROGERS, ROYCE, SPEAR, STANLEY, STEDMAN, STONE, SWART, THAYER, THOMAS, TILSON, VESEY, VROOMAN, WEBBER, WESTLAND, WHEELER, WOOD Thanks in advance for any help. Hi Harriet and All on List: I got a chuckle out of the subject heading "Charlotte's Web" quite a while back (especially since it arrived on my birthday). I realize that this is about 4-5 months late but this is the first opportunity to respond in a bit more depth on the MARTIN subject. First I wanted to let you know, Harriet, that my Chase connection is dead in the water, at least until I return to Vermont in 2004 (14 months & counting). Nancy C. CHASE was supposedly born in 1835 in Berlin, Washington, Vermont to William Chase, Jr. She is a 3rd great grandmother that ties into a 2nd great grandmother from the MARTIN family. My current MARTIN family is as follows from early to later: George I (Wales, England to Salisbury, MA) >> George II (Salisbury to Ipswich, MA) >> George III (Ipswich, MA to Windham, CT) >> George IV (Windham, Windham, CT) >> Gideon (Windham, CT to Randolph, Orange, VT) >> Rufus (Windham, CT to Randolph, Orange, VT) >> Henry (Rochester - , Windsor, VT) >> Burnap (Rochester to Bethel, Windsor, VT) >> Lillian (Rochester, Windsor, VT). There are two Gideon MARTINs in Vermont that I can see. The one above and another born 1808 to Rufus Martin and Abigail Brown and died in 1811. I searched all my record copies and did not find another Gideon. The 1790 Census (Heads of Families - Vermont, page 33) lists Gideon MARTIN in Randolph, Orange, VT (2 males over 16, 3 males under 16, and 2 females). The 1800 Census (Heads of Families - Vermont, page 91) lists Gideon MARTIN in Randloph, Orange, VT (males: 1 under 10 yo, 2 between 10 & 16 yo, and 1 of 45 and over; females: 1 between 16 & 26 yo and 1 of 45 and over). I have the following children born to Gideon MARTIN and Rachael HEATH. Anna Marsh Born on 18 May 1767 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut Lucinda Born on 16 Apr 1769 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut Esther Born on 20 Mar 1771 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut Rufus (1773-1864) Born in Windham, Windham, Connecticut and died in Randolph, Orange, Vermont (MY ANCESTOR) Timothy Born on 8 Jan 1776 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut died on 4 Jul 1777 Timothy Born on 9 Apr 1778 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut Sarah Born on 27 May 1780 in Windham, Windham, Connecticut died in Randolph, Orange County, Vermont on 8 Apr 1791 Mary Born on 2 Apr 1785 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont died on 1 May 1785 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont Erastus (1786-1864) Levi Born on 1 Feb 1790 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont died in Randolph, Orange, Vermont on 15 Jan 1839 Jesse Born on 3 Feb 1792 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont died in Braintree, Orange, Vermont on 30 Oct 1868 Mary died on 20 Mar 1784 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont I know that this may muddy the waters some more but I did need to respond to this before it gathered any more dust. I am still searching for people researching John Freeman and Nabby Mack... they lived in Brookfield. Anyone related? Valdafam@aol.com
Are any of the Hatch family her related to Converse or Brown? My husband's 3rd g-grandparents had their first son in Strafford (Nathaniel Brown 1802); their names are Reuben Brown & Amanda (Converse) Brown. They moved to Freedom, Cattaragus NY around1819-1824. Hatch family members moved from VT with them; one of Nathaniel's sons or grandsons married a Hatch. Judy schwanja723@aol.com
Greetings, I am searching for the parents of Patience Hatch. Patience was born, married and died in Strafford, Vt. I have that she was born 1749, married Elijah Beeman 1770 and died November 19, 1830. After receiving a book about the Town Hall in Strafford, there are several Hatch names listed in the index, but, I cannot identify if any, or which ones, were Patience's family. Anyone out there searching this line by any chance??? Thanks for any help. Marge
