To Joe and others. Vermont records are not only with the town Clerks. They are stored in Middlesex. They also have a huge collection in Montpelier called the Nye collection...where you can find info on an ancestor if he/she ever had anything to do with any legislative document, petition, court case, etc. Yes, it is hard to find anything outside of the state, but you can write to the Vermont Historical Society in Montpelier, to Mrs. Betty Wilkinson, or I know some other researchers who will do a record search for 5 or 10 dollars. Good luck. Sue <http://www.angelfire.com/ct/susquahanna/>

Does anyone know anything about the ancestors of Mary (MILLS) PRATT, who married Josiah PRATT, 13 Oct. 1785 in Newbury, VT? I think her father's name was John; mother's name may have been Elizabeth MCDUFFIE. Thanks. kathy
Hello! My name is Jacque, and I have just joined this list. I am researching four generations of Rogers from Vermont: 1st Generation Benjamin Rogers, b. c1778, VT, d c1812, son of ?; m. Anna Hodgkins, b. c1783, VT, d. 31 March 1837, VT, daughter of Thomas Hodgkins and Tryphena Durkee. Children were Anna, Lucy, Elisha, Hiram and Benjamin. 2nd Generation Benjamin Rogers, b. 31 March 1811, Stockbridge, VT, d. 19 March 1875, Rochester, VT; m. 1) Mary Ann Lyon, b. 10 November 1811, Strafford, VT, d. 22 Feb 1851, Rochester, VT; daughter of John M. Lyon and Betsy Noyes. Children were Ellen E., Anna E., Almira, Mary E., and Benjamin Jr. 3rd Generation Benjamin Rogers Jr., b. 7 Nov 1844, Stockbridge, VT, d. 23 Nov 1902, Boulder, CO; m. Betsey Robinson Lougee, b. 14 Sep 1840, Tunbridge, VT, d. 17 Sep 1917, Chappell, NE, daughter of Gilman Lougee and Martha Robinson. Children were Laura Ellen, Bessie E., and Benjamin H. 4th Generation Benjamin H. Rogers, b. 24 June 1876, Rochester, VT, d. 5 Dec 1954, Denver, CO; m. Rosa Grace Nagley, b. Gerrardstown, WV, d. 5 Dec 1941, Edgewater, CO; daughter of Rev. John Albert Nagley and Mary Elisabeth Rowland. Children were Rowland Nagley, Ellen, Kenneth, and Gerald. Main question is the parents of 1st generation Benjamin Rogers. Who are they? However, would like to know if anyone else is researching this line so can share information. Suggestions and guidelines are appreciated. Jacque Sacramento, CA
Hello everyone! Is anyone researching VAUGHAN/VAUGHN's in Vermont? My ggggrandfather, John VAUGHAN, lived in Grand Isle County, VT. He married, sometime between 1790 and 1800, Abigail STARK, daughter of Capt. John STARK and Eunice ADAMS, of South Hero, Grand Isle County, VT. Around 1803, John and Abigail VAUGHAN moved to Chazy, Clinton County, NY, where they remained until they died. John was born circa 1776, place unknown; Abigail was born circa 1780 in Pawlet, Rutland County, VT. I have been unable to find out anything about John's ancestry. I recently tried using the census indexes to see if I could find some potential candidates for the position of John's father. My most likely suspect seems to be William VAUGHAN of Strafford, VT as of the 1790 census. His household has a male child in it who is the right age to be John. There's a William VAUGHAN in Alburgh, Grand Isle County, VT. in the 1800 census, which at least puts him in the right area for John to meet up with Abigail in South Hero. In fact, William's the only VAUGHAN in the vicinity. In the 1800 census William VAUGHAN's household also lost a male household member in the right age group for it to be John getting married between 1790 and 1800. I've checked the genealogy of the descendants of John VAUGHAN of Rhode Island, but all the John VAUGHAN's who match up with mine agewise are accounted for with other families. Is anyone else researching this Vermont family? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me with this! Marion Bass Email at [email protected] com
Hi saw you msg on Vaughan. I am not searching that family, but am doing search on other families in VT. VT has little or no records out side of the state. You will have a hard time finding info. You may have to do as I did, twice, go to VT and meet the town clerk face to face to get any info. LDS church has no info that I could use. Goo Luck, Joe

Hey folks, I am new to the list and searching for the parents of Elias Jenkins, born 10 May 1791 in Bradford, Orange Co., Vermont, died 19 October 1870 in Stockholm, St. Lawrence Co., New York, where he and his wife Sally Gage (1796-1852), whom he married 13 November 1813, are buried in the Jenkins Neighborhood Cemetery. The 1790 census of Bradford lists three Jenkins of households, Stephen, Elijah and Benjamin. I think Elijah was Elias' father, since Elias named his sons Elijah, Elias, and Noah Elijah -- but I can't prove it!!!! Please Help!!! Thanks in advance for any leads -- and Happy Holidays!!!! Here is a interesting article that may help find a missing ancestor. It's about a wonderful witty man with a really wild hobby -- grave yard dowsing! With two little metal rods or even a bent coat hanger, he can workout the dimensions of a grave, and tell if it is a man or a woman. Joan Rose has written a very interesting article that can be seen in the current issue of the Signal, the biweekly newsletter of the US Internet Genealogical Society. You can read it at http://www.usigs.org/signal/signal.htm I hope you take a look. And P.S. Talking about cemeteries -- In the same issue, Pam Reitsch tells how a Boy Scout in her area took over the project of cleaning up and improving an old cemetery. It is worth considering as an Eagle Award project in your area. **************************************************** James A.
