    1. [VTORANGE-L] RACKLEY and AYER family in Vershire
    2. Gary M. Green
    3. Would like to find gravesite of SARAH (AYER) RACKLEY and her parents, NATHANIEL AYER (probably d. Vershire), and DESIRE (WILLIAMS) AYER, (d. Vershire, 23 APR 1813). Nathaniel Ayer owned 100 acres in Vershire, "from Moses Morey, 2nd Lot, original right of Samuel King, Lot #70". This lot was granted to his son, Joseph Ayer, 13 APR 1806. On 9 MAY 1806, Nathaniel and "wife" received the land from Joseph and returned it to him with a note for $1000, with the stipulation that Joseph is to care for his parents, Nathaniel and Desire. Joseph sold the land 6 FEB 1819. Sarah's husband, PELETIAH RACKLEY, came to Western NY ca.1830, with some of his children, and was buried Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu, Genesee Co., NY, 12 MAY 1835. [Gravestones exist forPeletiah, son Joseph, Joseph's wife, and Joseph's adopted son, Alonzo Post Rackley.] Sarah probably died before the move to NY, perhaps on the way to NY. In 1995, the minister in Vershire checked all of the gravestones in the cemetery by the church and found no RACKLEY or AYER graves. Are there other cemeteries in Vershire? How could I find information about them? [The Vershire town records have been checked.] Thank you very much for any help you can give. Gary Green 46 Franklin Street Westfield, NY 14787-1038

    3. Thank you, Jim. Someone did a look-up for me in a book they had for cemeteries in Thetford, but no real success. Don't think it listed all the cemeteries though. 3. Gary, I have been researching in and around Tunbridge, VT for the past few years. As you are aware many records are still kept by the Town Clerks, especially for the time period thast you are looking for. my wife and I were recently in Tunbridge, VT. There was a History of Tunbridge written, but as of warlier in 1998 it was out of print. There is a library in Tunbridge that has a copy of this book. There are some gravesites around Tunbridge and the graves do have markers. I don't know if anyone has copied all the grave stones around Tunbridge. There is a Web Page for the Folsom's (Fulsom's) on the Internet and the genealogy of the Folsom's have been recorded. You might want to check this out. I don't have the address. In a village not far from Tunbridge is Thetford and someone from Thjetford did record all the grave sites. I hope this will help you in your research.
