    3. From: [email protected] Old-Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 14:54:22 EST Lookiing for information concerning Hezekiah and Hannah Austin. It is believed that Hannah's father was Jonathan Austin who owned land in Bradford late 1790s and early 1800s. Hezekiah died around 1803/4 and Hannah married Joseph Higgins of Bradford and then Corinth. Looking for possible burial plots for Hezekiah and Joseph's wife, Polly, who died June, 1804. Looking for birth records for children of Hezekiah and Hannah.....Olive, Isaiah, Mary and Hannah. We have found records of Austin families throughout the area, but as yet we have not been able to find the birth records or land records that place Hezekiah and Hannah in the area around 1803/4. However, Hannah did marry Joseph Higgins in August of 1804. Help would be appreciated. Judy SJ

Sue Spain > I can't help you identify the parents of Daniel Woodward yet, but I have a little information on a Woodward family from Randolph, VT, the brother-in-law and sister of my Washburn ancestor. Asael Woodward married Lucy Washburn on 9 July 1789 in Randolph, Orange County, VT. Lucy was born on 16 Mar. 1769 in Middleborough, Plymouth Co., MA. I have not found the date when Asael died, but I did not find the family in the 1850 federal census in Orange County. Children born to Asael and Lucy Woodward were: 1. Betsey Woodward, born 27 May 1790 in Randolph, VT. 2. Henry Woodward, born 18 Jan. 1792 in Randolph. 3. Leonard Sears Woodward, born 15 Mar. 1794 in Randolph. 4. Abigail "Nabby" Woodward, born 22 Aug. 1797 in Randolph, married her first cousin, Rev. Cephas Washburn, on 6 Oct. 1818 in Randolph. Cephas was the son of Lucy Washburn's brother, Josiah Washburn, of Randolph. In your searching for Daniel Woodward, if you run across the parents of Asael Woodward, I'd appreciate hearing from you. 1. Re: [VTORANGE-L] Baldwin
    2. Whoops! While preparing my former E-mail on the family of Asa Baldwin I got a paragraph out of place. When I say "He does not give documentation, and I do have documentation of Asa's marriage to Lucy Bliss..." it refers to the marriage of Asa Baldwin to Lucy Sheldon in the Baldwin Genealogy update, and not to the Genealogy referred to by Chris Wanamaker. I apologize, and hope this has not thoroughly confused everyone. Anne Benson

Thank You, James http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/rodin/297/gene.html >> Hi James, I believe we have corresponded before and we both have our Asa as the son of Zebulon.. I found the following in the Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage Books under several applications "Asa Baldwin (1764-1827) and Chloe Underhill, his wife...Vermont militia, 1781...He was born in Mansfield, Conn., and died in Weston, Vt." The Baldwin Genealogy by Charles Candee Baldwin states that Zebulon was "Born in Spencer, Mass; he removed to Vershire, Vt, and according to the Worcester, MA VR, had the following children: Frederick, Zadoc, Elon, Asa and one more." The marriage records of Longmeadow state that Lucy Bliss, daughter of Pelatiah Bliss, married Asa Baldwin of Vershire, VT. He died February, 1821, in West Fairlee, VT. In a hand-typed Baldwin Genealogy which I found in the Salt Lake City LDS library entitled "Other Eleazor Baldwins, on page 20 I quote "Eleazer Baldwin, born Mar 11, 1725/25 in Billerica, Mass. Married Elizabeth Wright of Mansfield, Conn. in 1751...Children...Asa born 1764 in Mansfield, died July 27, 1827." It also states on page 21 "It [a printout he mentions] also shows a son named Eleazor born to Asa Baldwin and Cloe Underhill in 1799." I'm sorry, I did not copy the cover page or the author's name. I think I've finally learned better now. I was a beginning genealogist at that time. This definitely says to me that Asa who married Chloe Underhill from Mansfield is not Zebulon's son, Asa, born in Vershire. There is a further complication in that Aubrey Baldwin who prepared the Revised Baldwin Genealogy states that Asa Baldwin of Vershire married Lucy Sheldon, quoting from the Sheldon Genealogy. I also have an E-mail from Chris Wanamaker ([email protected]) who did a look-up for me in the Baldwin Genealogy and he states "Asa who married Chloe Underhil is in this genealogy. He was the son of Elezear who was the son of Thomas...There is a Zebulon who wa b in Spencer, MA, and removed to Vershire, VT...He was the son of David b 1701. Zebulon had Frederick, Zadoc who settled in Ohio, Elon, Asa, and one other..." He does not give documentation, and as I do have documentation of Asa's marriage to Lucy Bliss stating that Asa is from Vershire, I am sticking with the Baldwin/Bliss marriage. The following might be of interest to you, if you have not found it. In Vermont Land Records, State Papers of Vermont, Vol 5, Land Grant Petitions 1778-1800 there is a "Petition for Undesignated Vermont land, Spencer, Mass, 3 June 1780" which includes the names of Asa, Joseph, Levi, Zerubbable, Zebulon, Jabez Baldwin. Good luck in your research. If you get any conflicting documentation, refuting the above, please let me know. We'll get these Baldwins straight sooner or later. Anne Benson [email protected]

    2. There is a book of Tunbridge burials in the Vermont Historical Society library. I only have a couple of pages copied (my ancestors, of course). It is typewritten and probably less than a hundred pages. I haven't looked at it in awhile. You can probably get the library to do lookups for you. I don't know their policies but they are on the internet. Good Luck, Debbie

    2. Linda.L.Hall
    3. Yes, there is another cemetary in Vershire--near the private school on the hill. It is on the left hand side of the road on the way to Vershire Center--I have Fuller and Dow relatives buried there. And I was unable to find stones for a couple of my ancestors that relatives knew fairly well were buried in Vershire Village---so I think that some stones have been long gone unfortunately--one of my ancestor's stones disappeared between two of my visits in the Vershire Center one that was not kept up hardly at all for a long time. When I lived in South Tunbridge years ago I thought the Adams farm was on a back road there and near the South Royalton and Royalton town lines. Perhaps the ancestor is buried in one of the two cemetaries that are on that side of the White River and are in S. Royalton. Hope this is helpful. ****************************************** * [email protected] * * Sawyer Library/Sr. Circ.
