Can you tell me where you found the cemetery listings for Thetford Vermont? I went to Thetford on the USGENWEB, and found one place where someone will do a look up for information. Did you use another source? If so, could you please let me know what it is. I would like to contact the cemetery for further information. Is anyone researching this line? Jason married Rachael Burr (daughter of Seymour and Hannah Burr) Rachael died 2-21-1880 aged 83 years and 6 months. I believe it is possible that they may have had a son named Seymour Hanks. I have a lot of information on the descendants of Seymour Hanks, and am more than willing to share. I believe that "My" Seymour Hanks is connected to the Asa and Mary Harris Hanks line because of the following name repeats: Asa had a daughter named Antha "My" Seymour named his first child Antha Asa's son, Jason Hanks was married to the daughter of a man named Seymour And I "have" a Seymour Hanks "My" Seymour Hanks was born in Vermont, and married Lydia Farmer, also born in Vermont. Their first child, Antha L. Hanks was born 7-2-1849 in Vermont. Their next child was born in 1850 in Wisconsin. I apologize if I am overloading the list with information. I just feel like I am so close, but yet so far. If I can help anyone with any research in South Dakota, please let me know. Ronette from South Dakota
No, I haven't looked there. Thank you so much. This gives me more hope that I am on the right track. Harris Hanks had a brother by the name of Jason Hanks. So, it is possible that rather than being the son of Harris Hanks, "My" Seymour is the son of Jason Hanks. There are just too many coincidences with the names Antha and Seymour repeating. Thank you so much. Hello, I am new to the list. I am searching for any information of Harris and Sally Quimby Hanks, especially their children. Harris was b. 3-9-1793 in Thetford son of Asa and Mary Harris Hanks. Harris married Sally Quimby 3-26-1816 in Windsor, VT. I believe they may have had a son named Seymour, but I have no proof of that, just the fact that Seymour was born in Vermont, and named his first child Antha, and Harris had a sister named Antha. Since Antha is such an uncommon name, I am grasping at a straw here and hoping that Seymour named her after someone in her family. If I can help anyone with research in South Dakota, I am more than willing. Ronette from South Dakota Researching Hanks, Morse, Collins, Burrell, Shaw, Carpenter, Hosington, Hoselton Have extensive information on surnames Blachford and Heywood, and am more than willing to share. Thanks, Ronette from South Dakota
It is located east of East Brookfield.... To see where take a look at GNIS -- you will also need a map of the area as it shows roads etc but they are not named James GNIS: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Geographic Names Information System Query Results ANNIS HILL, VERMONT 1 Feature records have been selected from GNIS.* Feature Name: Annis Hill Feature Type: summit Elevation: 2000 State: Vermont County: Orange USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Brookfield Latitude: 440156N Longitude: 0723131W At 07:01 PM 09/19/99 EDT, you wrote: >I could not find Annis Hill in Vermont Placenames but I did find in the >Orange Co gazeteer of 1888 several Annis families living on the West Hill of >Chelsea which is right near Brookfield. Great! I'll have to check my Orange Co. Annis' to see if they were still there. Thanks so much for taking the time to look this up! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, September 19, 1999 7:01 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [VTORANGE] Annis Hill I could not find Annis Hill in Vermont Placenames but I did find in the Orange Co gazeteer of 1888 several Annis families living on the West Hill of Chelsea which is right near Brookfield. My Ezra Annis of Andover, Massachusetts went to Thetford. Vermont with his family after the Revolutionary War. His daughter, Ruth Annis and her husband Eliakim Walker lived next door. Are you in this line? Barbara Lewis
I could not find Annis Hill in Vermont Placenames but I did find in the Orange Co gazeteer of 1888 several Annis families living on the West Hill of Chelsea which is right near Brookfield. The families were Ara A and Eliza Annis, Holton S. Annis and John Annis - all living on "road 30". Page 33 of the Business Directory.
I am sure that not all of you are aware of the new query system on the Orange County page. You can post a query or view queries for Orange County, or any of the other Vermont Counties if you are unsure of your target. Also you can post deeds, wills, bios etc. You can also join the OC mailing or make changes. This automatic feature called GenConnect is getting excellent usage even though the system is relatively now. TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE Good Luck, Cliff Coy
Have you also posted this on the Orange County page site? There is an automated system now for posting queries. Here you will also make your request known to all of the Vermont counties or anyone researching other counties through the use of GENCONNECT. Try it....you will also record this for the archives and then continue to search through the OC list. Another dividend from this is that people not have two places on the County page to ADD themselves to the OC mailing list. That is interesting. I used the URL and filled out using Orange County as the place. It was returned as "Orange County not a valid county." Whatever that means it is not correct. How did you access the information. Tell me more..if it should appear somewhere on the Town site or sites.. I can do that for you. No relation that I know of. Our Dewey's were farther west by the 1860's and actually were in Canada for a while. They originated from MA and migrated to Quebec Canada before returning to Washington Co., NY. My Arnold and Annis lines were both in VT (Rutland and Orange counties respectively). -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 1999 7:56 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [VTORANGE] Annis Hill In a message dated 09/13/1999 9:37:26 PM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: << /DEWEY >> Hi Todd,,, Do you happen to have any Dewey ancestors living in Northfield, Washington Co. in 1860? I discovered an "Annis Hill" in the GNIS site at http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html. It's near Brookfield in Orange Co. and is described as a summit. Does anyone know the history of this place? I have ANNIS ancestors from the Thetford area which I know isn't too near there, but found it intriguing nonetheless. Judy, How to search the Mailing List Archive area. 1) Go to the following web address http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl 2) bookmark it at this point 3) Place the name of the mailing list in area named "Name of List": This is what you will want for searching the Orange Co., VT Mailing List: VTORANGE-L 4) Click "Submit Query" You will now be at a new webpage entitled, "Search the Archive of Messages for VTORANGE Mailing List" 5) Place the surname in the "Query" box 4) Click the circle to indicate the appropriate year that you want to search. 5) Click the 'Search' buttton. 6) Once at the results page, there will be a list of 'hits'. My 5th Gt. Grandfather, William Ross m/2 Eliza Zachary in 1822 BooneCo Ky. After much digging we found were Eliza had md. Thomas Zachary in 1821 in Boone co Ky as Eliza Woodbury/Woodbery. In the marriage to William Ross, Gardner Woodbury/Woodberry was bondsman. Gardner goes to Ripley co Indiana, just across the river a bit from Boone co and Eliza also lives there with William Ross. Gardner finally goes to Vermilion Co. Ill. where he dies ca 1841. Have some info on the family of Gardner can share. Eliza was b ca 1793 in NH and Gardner was also born in NH. Gardner is in the 1820 census of Orange co VT. Does any one have any info on the Woodbury family or who Eliza is. Would also appreciate the info from the 1820 on Gardner Woodbury. Thanks. Barb
Are you sure it is Norcross and not Cross?
