    3. Patti, I never found a civil record of my g-grandfather's birth in Fairfield, Franklin Co., VT. I always knew he was born in VT and I knew his birth date but not where in VT. My mother was moving again and had packed up some books she no longer wanted. She asked me to go through them. I did and what a surprise. In the front inside page was an inscription from my grandfather to his daughter-in-law, Susan Baer Sturtevant. The inscription gave his name, date of birth, and born in Fairfield, VT. From there things took off for finding other things about my Sturtevant ancestry. Once you can accept the fact that many of our ancestors were too cheap to pay the recording fee for a birth, marriage, death record, you will start to look in other places, like letters, diaries, probate records of siblings, or cousins, and military/pension records of his known buddies who may have asked him for a deposition. Just some thoughts. ...Jo ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patti Waitman-Ingebretsen" <pattitwirler@comcast.net> To: <vtfrankl@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2012 2:13 PM Subject: Re: [VTFRA] VTFRANKL >I am stuck in Franklin Co, VT and have had zero success with local >historians, county clerks, local libraries, gen societies etc. I subscribe >to Ancestry, NEGHS and can access Heritage Quest and Family Search.
