Emery, as I now know, was Emery dit Coderre. For a time (a couple of generations) our branch went by the name Mariours. Mariours Emery dit Coderre was the Captain of the Militia at St-Ours (likely the "ours" part of the name). When I found Onésime Lacroix and found them all in the same parish, it satisfied the comment that was made that the two families were neighbors. Lacroix is a "dit" name for many other surnames. Just which one was very tough in tracking. However, once I discovered Onésime and learned it was Babin dit Lacroix, I had a much easier time of it. Joachim became Joseph in the U.S. and your Joseph is likely the Joachim whose birth record I am still missing. However, I do know that he resided in St-Albans and I know he married twice. Fortunately, after 1850 the census takers recorded all the names of each member of a household and the relationship to the head. Sometimes I found "boarder" but when investi! gating the "boarder" discovered there was a relationship. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
