There was also an Association Test (what they called it where my ancestors signed it in New Hampshire). The Association Test was an attestation they supported the Revolution. Not signing didn't necessarily result in expulsion from the community. There is an excellent book, The Journal of Abner Sanger (no relation), who lived in Keene, NH. He detailed his daily details of farm life which would have mirrored our ancestor's lives. Abner did not sign the Association Test and his brother joined a Loyalist Regiment. Abner was never asked to leave, but was viewed with some suspicion but he never took up arms. His brother moved to Canada after the War. My Healey branch moved to the Potsdam, NY, area and were early founders. This was Jabez and his wife and kids. The Bailey family from Shoreham also went.
