Hi Cindy, Information from Vermont Historical Gazetteer by Hemenway.(Lake Champlain) re: "Battle of Plattsburgh" Not sure if this is your John West or not but he is listed among other British officers killed or wounded during the invasion. He was listed as (Severely Wounded.) The names were published in the London Gazette of the 19th and 26th of Nov. 1814. Wish I could help more.
