Hi Lisa, Howya been? I have "The History of Swanton Vermont" by Rodney R. Ledoux, who, by the way, is the father of Tom Ledoux who is the Webmaster of "Vermont in the Civil War". In the index it does mention several Lapans. They are as follows: Beulah LaPan - In the index it states that Beulah LaPan is mentioned on page 16. I have read that page twice and scanned the pages next to it and cannot find any mention of Beulah. Those pages have to do with revolutionary times. Lawrence F. LaPan, Jr. - is in a list of World War II veterans. Noah L. Lapan, Jr. - is in a list of Vietnam Era Veterans. Pete Lapan - Is listed on page 124 as having owned a farm on the west side of Route 7 road. No date or actual address are given. Phillip Lapan - The author speaks of the "Swanton Marble Industry" and lists Phillip Lapan as being one of the "men that I remember as working with their teams of horses" to haul sand from a pit used in sawing marble. This was in the 1920's and 1930's. Randy Lapan - is mentioned as being "a member of the present staff" of Barrette's Garage. Book was written in 1989. I have never seen the "notebook" that exists in the Swanton Library written by John Moody. Another person that I know did and gave me a partial list of surnames that were contained in it as being Abenaki. No first names were given. Lapan was on the list. As far as whether there were first names somewhere else in the book, I don't really know although I got the impression that the only full names were of tribal elders and other such personages. Not a great deal of help in pinpointing specific ancestors. Soc, in 1988, or History of Swanton, Vt 1882 by George Barney and John B. Perry published in Abby Marie Hemenway's Vermont Historical Gazeteer in 1882 or another book? [I found the above books at the Hist. Soc. website] Thanks, Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 6:30 PM Subject: [VTFRANKL] Re: Lapan > There is info in the History of Swanton for the Lapan name.these first names. > Noah L.,Pete,Philip,Randy.There is also LaLan,.Beaula +Lawerence. > > Jean M > ==== VTFRANKL Mailing List ==== If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
