    1. [VTFRANKL] Descendants of Ziba DASSANCE and Experience KEEP
    2. Jennifer Mitten
    3. Here's my roll call posting: I am looking for all descendants of Ziba DASSANCE (aka DAWSON) and Experience KEEP of the town of Franklin, Vermont. Although Martha Hanna Towle's excellent history of the town surmises that Ziba was a French-Canadian or descendant of a French soldier who remained in the colonies after the Revolutionary War, Ziba's father was actually a soldier in the French and Indian War and the Revolution (for Massachusetts). At least three of Ziba's brothers served in the Revolutionary War, including one who died in service in the Continental Line (and my ancestor who served from Keene, NH and moved to Shrewsbury, VT). Ziba was born approximately 1772 and would have been too young to serve. One problem with this group is that their name is spelled in numerous ways, including DASSANCE, DAUSENCE, DAWSON, DORSON, and DASSANCE. In my line (from Shrewsbury, Vermont), the name was uniformly DAWSON after about 1820. In the group that moved to Newfield, New York, the name is always DASSANCE. The Massachusetts family is always known as DASSANCE as well. The Franklin County family members who moved to Franklin County, New York are known both as DASSANCE or DAWSON and the names are interchangeable. Just to make matters more confusing, there is an Isle La Motte family named DAWSON who I believe are from England and not to be confused with the DASSANCE family. At any rate, I would like to hear from anyone who has this couple in their background. Some names associated are COBURN, MANLEY/MANLY, AUSTIN, CRAMPTON, GLIDDEN, WESCOTT, CARTWRIGHT, GLADDEN, DENIO, and CLOUGH. I look forward to hearing from you....
