Researching John GODDARD and Lucy (STILES) GODDARD, also ?John SHAW? John GODDARD (b. December 13 or 15, 1764) married Lucy STILES (b. December 21, 1762 in Hollis NH) on March 21, 1785 in Hollis, NH. He is said to have died July 26, 1812 in Milton, VT. Their son Caleb GODDARD is listed in the 1850 Georgia, VT census as having a 90 year old woman named Lucy SHAW living in his household. Caleb subsequently moved to Lena, IL. I received the following from the Lena cemetery: Goddard, Lucy Gl: No lot number b: d: October 29, 1853 Age: 93 yrs. 10 mos. 8 das. Sp: John Shara (?) Goddard A kind person sent me a photograph of the tombstone of Lucy GODDARD. If I squint right this is what the stone seems to read (very hard to read). Goddard Lucy wife of John Shaw died Oct. 29. 1853 Lucy SHAW (aged 90 in 1850) would be the same age as Lucy GODDARD (93 IN 1853), but not as Lucy (STILES) GODDARD who would only have been 87 in 1850. Are these 3 Lucy all the same person? Is there any evidence that Lucy (STILES) GODDARD married a John SHAW after John GODDARD's death? Any thoughts?
