I am researching the STIMETS family in Highgate, Vermont (starting about 1800). Family legend is that John Stimets (Johannes Steinmetz) was a Hessian soldier that settled in Vermont. A website for Highgate indicates that it was settled by Hessian soldiers who mistakenly thought they were in Canada, which seems to jive with our family legend. Does anyone have any information about the STIMETS family or Hessian soldiers in the area? Thanks in advance- Julie Burdey
