New to this list, I keep coming across conflicting information that frequently states: Both Jesse WALKER (no date) of Brooklyn VT, as well as… Amasa WALKER (1772) who married in 1797 to Sarah MILLETT (1777-1855) Is the father of the 4 children listed below. Source; LDS and OWT I have not located anything that solidly confirms either one, as yet. I’m stumped… I could use some help finding the “convincing answer” to who the parents really are. I have already utilized the gateway, Ancestry.com and LDS, resources. I can’t yet get to any Co. Clerks offices. Is Brooklyn a typo for (Brookline)? Or is it Danby ? This family resided in Fairfax, Fletcher, Fairfield, and Jay, (abt 1810 – 1880) Children are: 1. * Willard WALKER (1798 – 1880) m: Susannah KIDDER (1802- 1883) daughter of David KIDDER and Sophia FESSENDEN , Willard and Susannah died in New Port VT 2. Amasa WALKER (1802 - ) m: Sarah Jane ELLSWORTH (1806 – 1843) daughter of Joseph ELLSWORTH and Lucy HAYNES 3. Frances WALKER (LDS reads 1804) (1814 – 1858) m: De Louis WELLMAN (1794 – 1876) m: not confirmed, Both in Brookline. 4. Clarinda WALKER (1810 - ) m: Franklin LEARNED (1808 - ) in Fletcher, Franklin, Vermont, son of Joseph LEARNED and Lydia TREADWAY, Clarinda and Franklin last found in Mazomanie, Dane, Wisconsin 1870 The * is my line of Descent. Colleen -- Here are some bits and pieces. Cindy Walcott According to Esther Swift's Vermont Place Names the town of Mt. Tabor, in Rutland Co., VT had a village within it formerly called Brooklyn. Mt. Tabor is adjacent to Danby. Having said that, there were Walkers early in Brookline. The town was created in 1794 and a Thomas Walker w constable and collector. There is also a reference to Franklin Walker. At the time of the 1800 census, Thomas and Jesse Walker were heads of household in Brookline. There does not appear to be an Amasa Walker head of household in Vermont in 1800. As you may already know, the 1880 census indicates that Willard Walker's father was born in VT and his mother in NH. At that time, the household members were Willard, age 82, born VT; Susan age 78, born VT and daughter Edith, age 28, born in VT. Susan's parents were both born in CT. The following are from Gazetteer of Lamoille and Orleans Counties, VT.; 1883-1884, Compiled and Published by Hamilton Child; May 1887,transcribed by Tom Dunn at http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/OrleansJay.html "The next built was a saw-mill erected by Ithamar Hadlock, on the Cook brook, just below the present dam. Brewer sold to Solomon Sheldon, March, 18, 1839, and he in turn to Willard Walker, September 25, 1841. Walker, although one of the leading men of the town, had but little respect for the Sabbath and did most of his sawing during low water time in the summer on that day. It was so rare for him to saw on a week day, that when he did so once, a neighbor's little girl went to the mill and inquired of Mr. Walker if it was Sunday. Walker sold the mill to T.
