Okay, I have a question for everyone to ponder. In the 1850 census, town of Sheldon Vt, County of Franklin, on Page 302, house 260, we find Lewis Gero 52 M b. Canada Zaa 51 F b.Canada Antione 17 M B.Canada Mary 13 F B. Canada Jane 7 F B. Vermont This would be Mary Gero who married Peter Ryea of unknown Parents. On page 303, (next page) same town, same county,House 287 (quite nearby) we find: John Ryea 37 M B. Canada Mary 32 F B. Canada John Jr 15 M B. Canada Mary 14 F B. Canada Peter 10 M B. Canada Lewis 9 M B Canada Lucinda 7 F B Canada Edgar 2 M B Canada Now this is supposedly the family of John Baptiste Gregoire Ryea, Sr. However, the Peter in that family is not born until AFTER 1858, which is far off from this family. I understand Eleazer also was sometimes called Peter, but He too was born AFTER the 1850 census. The missing son in this census entry from the list I have below would be Augustin. Could Augustin be known as Augustin Peter, and therefore be one and the same? Would this be the reason we can find no other records for Peters birth? Would this then make sense that both Peter & Mary Gero's children, and the grand children of John Baptiste Gregoire Ryea, Sr are named alike? Would this also be the reason that these two families appeared from Canada in the same time period in the same town? Does anyone have records of Augustin's family that will disprove / prove this theory? any other thoughts?
