    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Rockwell, Atchinson. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pAC.2ACI/2172.1 Message Board Post: Hello... Although you don't mention my family's surname of Rockwell (in earlier times was one of Rocelle, Rochell, Rochelle, Rockville, Rockwood, etc.), the links between our families are still very close. I'm 32, and my Dad, Granddad, Great Grandad were all born and lived in Montgomery and Highgate, Franklin Vermont. My GG Granddad was born in Quebec--from readings I suspect Brome, Quebec close to the Vermont border. Names beginning with my Granddad--Oscar Stephen Rockwell (Montgomery, VT), born to Lester and Alma Rockwell (Montgomery, VT--not sure of Alma's maiden name), Lester Rockwell born to Antnus (my GG Granddad) (Brome, Quebec) and Elizabeth Rockwell (Franklin, VT) (not sure of her maiden name). My Grandmother, and Great Granddad & Great Grandmother via my Dad's maternal line are all I know about, and both were born in, or close to, Highgate or Montgomery, Franklin, VT. This is the surname of Atchinson. Names beginning with my Grandmother--Lucia Anna Atchinson (Rockwell) (Franklin, VT), married to Oscar Stephen Rockwell (Montgomery, Franklin, VT), and born to John and Hattie (not sure of Hattie's maiden name) Atchinson (Franklin, VT) along with her Sister, Nina Atchinson (not sure of Nina's married name) (Franklin, VT). This Rockwell line originated in England, and are of Norman descent rather than Saxon. Previous to England, Normandy, and previous to Normandy, Scandinavia. We know 2 brothers from Normandy were commissioned by a noble/royal for a battle (anywhere between 1000 and 1550 A.D.), and 2 later brothers from England were given the task of signing land deeds in the American colonies (early to mid 1600's). This, I'm guessing, is the origination of our line in N. America, either beginning in Quebec and moving to VT, or beginning in America with a short detour to Quebec and then back to America (not sure if Antnus is the only one born in Quebec, or if his parents--or more generations before him--were born/lived in Quebec). Thanks for reading, and if there are any ties (even as family friends who might have information) you can help me with I'd be very appreciative. Sincerely, Erika Rockwell (egrockwell)
