    1. Re: McMahon/White families
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McMahon, McMann, White Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pAC.2ACI/2149.1 Message Board Post: The Thomas and Catharine you speak of had 9 children. 1, Elizabeth "Lizzie"; 2, Ellen or Nellie, 3 William, 4 Margaret "Maggie", 5 Mary, 6 George, 7 Charles, 8 John & 9 Francis "Frank" Like you, I had originally placed Thomas as son of Hugh & Ann McMahon. There seem, however, to have been two Thomas McMahons of the same age in Franklin County, both married to Catharines. The first in 1866 and the other about 1870. One, which appears to be yours, was in Swanton in 1870 with Catharine (b. May 15, 1852) and children: Elizabeth (2) Helen (1) & William 3 mos. In 1880 Swanton he was with the 9 children listed above. He appears in St Albans in 1883 Franklin Business Directory as a tinsmith. I find no record of him after this. The other was Thomas, 26, single who resided with parents Hugh & Ann McMann in Bakersfield in 1870. In 1880 Bakersfield, VT census, p 8, h/h 166/175: Thomas McMahon, 36, farmer, VT IRe, Ire; Katharine, 32, wife, VT, Ire, Ire; Ann, 70, mother, Ire. In 1900 Bakersfield, Thomas , 56, b. March 1844 & wife Catharine b. Jan 1848, married 30 yrs, had no children, his brother John McMann, 58 lived with them. John is also listed as son of Hugh & Ann McMahon in earlier censuses. in 1910 the same 3 appear in Bakersfield, now with a 10 yr old called daughter, Mary R (probably adopted). This Thomas McMahon/McMann died in Bakersfield in 1924.
