    3. Hi Carollee, I'm astounded that no one has ever copied these notebooks and gotten them published. I've also heard from people that have seen them that they are falling apart. It would be a sin to let them deteriorate until they are no longer usable. Putting them in plastic is only a stopgap and not necessarily a good one. The two notebooks should really be put on microfilm so that the information they contain isn't lost. Some plastic can hurry the deterioration of paper instead of helping to keep it from harm. Of course talk is cheap and I have no immediate (read ever!) plans to travel on up to Swanton and start copying either. I'm told that there are references to Boucher and Guyette as well as Lapan, both of which names are actually much more closely related to me. Dave Constantine in Boston [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: carollee reynolds Hi Guys John Moodys list of suspected abenaki families is part of the two notebooks donated by Tom ledoux. These are not published books and I am not aware of any copies, Just lately they were sheathed in plastic as they were falling apart. Each notebook has several hundred pages. the families lines dont go more than one generation before the families hit Swanton, if you are lucky. It too bad we couldnt put them on a database and let people contribute to it--my direct Reynolds family line is in it but it looks like there are alot of unconnected Reynolds when infact they all go back to the same family. I'm sure alot of you could do the same. Carollee

They are as follows: Beulah LaPan - In the index it states that Beulah LaPan is mentioned on page 16. I have read that page twice and scanned the pages next to it and cannot find any mention of Beulah. Those pages have to do with revolutionary times. Lawrence F. LaPan, Jr. - is in a list of World War II veterans. Noah L. Lapan, Jr. - is in a list of Vietnam Era Veterans. Pete Lapan - Is listed on page 124 as having owned a farm on the west side of Route 7 road. No date or actual address are given. Phillip Lapan - The author speaks of the "Swanton Marble Industry" and lists Phillip Lapan as being one of the "men that I remember as working with their teams of horses" to haul sand from a pit used in sawing marble. This was in the 1920's and 1930's. Randy Lapan - is mentioned as being "a member of the present staff" of Barrette's Garage. Book was written in 1989. I have never seen the "notebook" that exists in the Swanton Library written by John Moody. Another person that I know did and gave me a partial list of surnames that were contained in it as being Abenaki. No first names were given. Lapan was on the list. 3. Hey Dave! Didn't know you were on this list too! Over on the NA-Abenaki list, they talk about that notebook a lot. I saw that there were Lapan listed in there, so I wanted to see what it had to say about them. Someone has offered to go over to the library tomorrow, and will copy the pages on the Lapan for me, but from what I have since heard, it may just be a mention of their names, and not any associated genealogy. That's OK too I guess because it will put those families in Swanton at a particular time. From everything we have ever seen, the Lapan in VT appear to descend from Jean Gaboriau by way of Pierre Couc & Marie Miteouamegoukoue but there is no record for one of the marriages in the line. These are all the names Jean mentioned in her message, so this must be the book she was referring to. Beulah must be referenced back to the wrong page :-( The only Beulah I have is Beulah Maskell, d/o Judson Maskell and Beulah Berger married to Larry Lapan, s/o Noah Lapan & Mary Jane Gardner. Maybe Beulah will show up with the Maskell if there is any info on them. Beulah's brother William died this past October - if anyone needs the obituary, let me know. Thanks again for sending this information. I really appreciate it. 1. Need help with John Moody's genealogy book at the Swanton Library
    2. Lisa Lepore
    3. Hi listers - I called the Swanton library today in hope of asking them to copy the pages concerning the Lapan families from John Moody's genealogy research notebook which I understand does not circulate. Although the librarian was very helpful, she was not familiar with the book, and wasn't sure if she had found the one I was asking about. The one she found did not seem to have an author or compiler's name associated with it. Can someone who has used this Moody book tell me if it has a title? I understand it is a looseleaf binder - is it indexed? Can anyone give me some specific information that will help the librarian locate the book? She told me to call back tomorrow and in the meantime she would see if she could ask someone about it later on today. If I don't have any luck with the library, should I contact the Swanton Historical society, or is there anyone on this list who is actually in Swanton and could do this for me? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, Lisa [email protected]
