I have founds massive amounts of research for the Meacham's amd I have birth and death dates for sarah Bond Cauley, but I have been unable to find her, under the name, Bond or fcauley, in New Salem, Mass, where she is reported to have been born, There are a goodly amount od Meachames with both spellings in the Vital Records of New Salem MA. to 1849 but Doctor Thomas and Sarah are not included, and neither are any of their children. Sarah is reported to have died in Lawrence County, New York, so there must be records for her there. In the past few days I have made enquiries about the region and I want to be able to get in touch with the records ofices of that area now. Though the Meachams are astonishingly well researched Sarah's relatives are not known and are, as such, unnamed in the annals of the Meacham family. My research is by request of a Meacham relative, who has a desire to learn more about Sarah specifically, and her family. Thank you tremendously for your input.

He married Sarah BOND Cauley [perhaps Bond is her maiden name or her mother's?] I have 7 children for them. The 5 you named and Thomas Jr 1794 & Elam 1795. I had Elam's birth in New York. Meacham Lake in northern New York was named for Dr. Thomas Meacham. I descend from Dr Thomas' brother Joseph MECHAM through his daughter Phebe. Phebe died in childbirth and her husband Isaac Flood married Phebe's 1st cousin, Meribah MEACHAM, daughter of Samuel MEACHAM, Jr. Some of the Meacham's were Mormons in NY. My ancestor Joseph, and brothers Elam & Joshua changed the spelling of their name to MECHAM while remaining brothers Samuel, Dr Thomas, Jeremiah & Andrew kept the original spelling. Although Dr Thomas was a Mormon he kept the original spelling. I'd check Mormon records for Thomas' wife.

There seem, however, to have been two Thomas McMahons of the same age in Franklin County, both married to Catharines. The first in 1866 and the other about 1870. One, which appears to be yours, was in Swanton in 1870 with Catharine (b. May 15, 1852) and children: Elizabeth (2) Helen (1) & William 3 mos. In 1880 Swanton he was with the 9 children listed above. He appears in St Albans in 1883 Franklin Business Directory as a tinsmith. I find no record of him after this. The other was Thomas, 26, single who resided with parents Hugh & Ann McMann in Bakersfield in 1870. In 1880 Bakersfield, VT census, p 8, h/h 166/175: Thomas McMahon, 36, farmer, VT IRe, Ire; Katharine, 32, wife, VT, Ire, Ire; Ann, 70, mother, Ire. In 1900 Bakersfield, Thomas , 56, b. March 1844 & wife Catharine b. Jan 1848, married 30 yrs, had no children, his brother John McMann, 58 lived with them. John is also listed as son of Hugh & Ann McMahon in earlier censuses. in 1910 the same 3 appear in Bakersfield, now with a 10 yr old called daughter, Mary R (probably adopted). This Thomas McMahon/McMann died in Bakersfield in 1924.

Also in the St. Marys Cemetery in Swanton is the resting place of Louis Boucher and his wife Alice Papineau. What others might find interesting is that when Louis was born in 1879, Chicopee, MA., his surname was BUSHEE, at the time of his marriage in 1907, Swanton, VT., his surname was BUSHEY, and at the time of his death in 1971, Burlington, VT., his surname was BOUCHER. This is all documented and I thought I would pass in on to other researchers of this surname.

A Repertoire, as I have always seen it used in Genealogy, is a published collection of acts, usually marriages, baptisms and burials or some combination thereof. The collection is usually done by parish, town, county, state or province within a given set of dates. The word Repertoire is of French origin and it is very possible that the term is most common in French or French-Canadian research. Since nearly all of the research that I have done is French-Canadian I wouldn't know. Dave Constantine in Boston [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: Donald R. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Rockwell, Atchinson. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pAC.2ACI/2172.1 Message Board Post: Hello... Although you don't mention my family's surname of Rockwell (in earlier times was one of Rocelle, Rochell, Rochelle, Rockville, Rockwood, etc.), the links between our families are still very close. I'm 32, and my Dad, Granddad, Great Grandad were all born and lived in Montgomery and Highgate, Franklin Vermont. My GG Granddad was born in Quebec--from readings I suspect Brome, Quebec close to the Vermont border. Names beginning with my Granddad--Oscar Stephen Rockwell (Montgomery, VT), born to Lester and Alma Rockwell (Montgomery, VT--not sure of Alma's maiden name), Lester Rockwell born to Antnus (my GG Granddad) (Brome, Quebec) and Elizabeth Rockwell (Franklin, VT) (not sure of her maiden name). My Grandmother, and Great Granddad & Great Grandmother via my Dad's maternal line are all I know about, and both were born in, or close to, Highgate or Montgomery, Franklin, VT. This is the surname of Atchinson. Names beginning with my Grandmother--Lucia Anna Atchinson (Rockwell) (Franklin, VT), married to Oscar Stephen Rockwell (Montgomery, Franklin, VT), and born to John and Hattie (not sure of Hattie's maiden name) Atchinson (Franklin, VT) along with her Sister, Nina Atchinson (not sure of Nina's married name) (Franklin, VT). This Rockwell line originated in England, and are of Norman descent rather than Saxon. Previous to England, Normandy, and previous to Normandy, Scandinavia. We know 2 brothers from Normandy were commissioned by a noble/royal for a battle (anywhere between 1000 and 1550 A.D.), and 2 later brothers from England were given the task of signing land deeds in the American colonies (early to mid 1600's). This, I'm guessing, is the origination of our line in N. America, either beginning in Quebec and moving to VT, or beginning in America with a short detour to Quebec and then back to America (not sure if Antnus is the only one born in Quebec, or if his parents--or more generations before him--were born/lived in Quebec). Thanks for reading, and if there are any ties (even as family friends who might have information) you can help me with I'd be very appreciative. Sincerely, Erika Rockwell (egrockwell)
