There is no mention of a Constable in any county in "Vermont Place Names" or by doing a Google search. There is however a Constable in Franklin County, New York. I found it in the 1900 NY Census as well as the earlier Censuses. At one time prior to Vermont becoming a state a part of NW Vermont was claimed by New York. At that time I believe that Franklin County in NY and VT were considered by some to be all one large County. That may have led to the confusion. I am relying on an old and somewhat fuzzy memory so the details are lost. Hi Dave, Thanks for taking time to look up this marriage. I am puzzled as to where to look for the John (Jean) Dumas marriage. Per the census records, he immigrated from Quebec in 1836 (age 11) so I felt he probably married in the states. Also, he is listed on the 1850 census of St. Albans, VT - age 26, wife Rosanna 24 with an infant boy, Michael. Michael's birth record was found in the old records of St. Mary's but the mother's named is listed as Theotiste Olivier. Anyway, thanks for your help.
