HI, Not sure how I am to be using this site; however, I'll give it a try. I am looking for death info on my family, surname Parrow, that could have been Paro, Perault or any of those variations from the French. That is just a conjecture since I have read that many French passed back and forth from Quebec to Swanton. My great great grand father was Edward N. Parrow, born 1832 in VT......His wife was Esther Mason, also b. 1832, which could have been Masson at one time, who was also born in Swanton, VT. I can find no solid information their parentage. They both died in MA Thank you, Kaethe (KAY-tha) O. Maguire

I see that Ancestry (library edition) has an online index from Donella Ashline, 2001. I need to confirm a spelling and see if there's more information than just name and date of death. I have an exact date and page number if you have access. Thank you, Brian Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. received this from a cousin who lives up that way and I figured would know about it: Joanne, Yes I do know this area. My family also used to picnic there especially in the 60's to 70's. About 45 years ago when I was 12 after our cook-out we hiked up the road as there was activity going on. When we got to the top there was a gently rolling meadow (badly in need of haying) with an old abandoned farmhouse and a group maybe 5 to 10 people in their 20's. They were so excited they had just bought it & told us to look around. In the 60's Montgomery had many small neglected farms( around 1962 you could no longer use the large milk cans to store milk-so either you had to quit farming or convert to electric cooling milk tanks) & was a hotbed of hippie communes. I think the stone buildings were built by them. The guns were probably to scare off people in order to protect the fancy weed they were growing. I remember so clearly going into the farmhouse & feeling uneasy, like a past spirit was there. This memory has always spooked me. I believe from comparing the 1871 Beers Map that was Philo Lanphere's place & the road North of it currently called Highland Spring Road is where our Uncles Samuel & William Eldred &cousin Anson Eldred lived & Uncle Clark Eldred later moved to. There was also 3 other Eldreds & a Tracy lived at the base the main Road. -- Joanne Saltman Belchertown, MA

If you would like a copy, you can email me at nsutti@yahoo.com I would be happy to share this wonderful find. Beyond the picnic area was a path into the woods (looking at Google maps it appears that this are may be part of the Avery's Gore Wildlife Management Area), and a little ways up the path were three stone buildings. I have pictures of myself and my family wandering around the property that the buildings were on. This was an annual tradition for us until one year a group of people had moved into the buildings and threatened us with a rifle not to come onto the property again, and that was the last time I was up there. I am sure I can spot the buildings on Google Map's satellite view, so I believe they are still up there. I am wondering if anyone has any information about the buildings. Who built them and when? Were they homes? Are they accessible these days (I would love to hike back in there, but the image of the men with rifles is still very much ! ingrained in my head lol). Thanks in advance. Have you ever come across an Ira Ibey married to Jane? Jane was born in the USA, Ira in Canada. I found them listed under Alexander & Hester in the 1861 census. I don't have anything on them. Ira would be old enough to be a son as Alexander is 53 and Ira is 26. If Ira is a son, he was born before Hester & Alexander were married so I wasn't sure if he may have had a wife that passed away coming through child birth. Anyway, just some food for thought. I amm going to be away for a few days but I will have my laptop with me in case I get some time to work at the tree. I look forward to hearing more from you, especially your line. I have people traced back into Quebec but I have not been able to find where they came from before Quebec. I was always told that we originally came from Ireland, but have yet to find the way. The information I have on Maria was from the 1871 census & I have her birth date as 16 Apr 1854 in Quebec which would have been Lower Canada at that point. I have on another census, just seen her listed as Mariah C1861. I am on Ancestry but feel free to contact me by email. I believe this links into it. I look forward to hearing more abouit your part of the family. I didn't have anything about who Maria married or her family. I will look now that I have a little.
