Thanks to all who responded to my query re the St. Albans newspaper and reference to the obit on my 4th great grandfather Lt. Cassius W. Ellsworth. The information was very much appreciated and useful. Keith.
I'll send you the articles from genealogy bank. If you or anyone else live in Vermont, check with your libraries. Many libraries offer the digital newspapers that you can access from home with your library cards. I live in Massachusetts, and can access a lot of papers through the libraries here. I have Googled the paper and after many search terms I have found it referred me to a site requiring my credit card for data. Another link, http://www.genealogybank.com, actually found two news articles in this paper referencing my 4th grgrandfather 1st Lt. Cassius W. Ellsworth in news articles dated 1999 and 1915 (he died 1865) but a snippet of each looked like reference to his obit. Exactly what I am looking for. But, they too want a membership and money. Does anyone know of a FREE source for this news paper? Ancestry.com doesn't seem to find it either. Thanks, Keith. I'm thinking I'll need to send it by email, so if you provide me with that, I'll be happy to send it to you. After Esther's daughter Emily died, she stayed in Three Rivers to help raise her 4 year old granddaughter, Grace ( my grandmother). Edward Parrow died in 1908. Is it possible to scan in the photo of Esther. I have never seen a photo. My aunt (1909-2002), great grand daughter of Esther, told me there was a whole album of family photos on the Parrow side, but I have never been able to locate it through the few contacts I had.I descend through Edward and Esther's son, William. He died 1.1.1938, but I have not been able to obtain a death cert. I found that info through an award checker player organization and a newspaper article. I have asked the 'find a grave' people to photo Esther's grave at Four Corners burying ground in Palmer, MA. It is all quite a mystery as to why Esther remained out in the Palmer area long after Emily's death and after her working years....when her son was in Boston, MA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thank you Katherine, Yes, I re read the '06 thread recently and I have all the info you listed and more. William C. Parrow, Esther and Edward's only surviving child by the time of their deaths, was my great grand father. I just thought I give it another try for the parents of Esther and Edward. I did learn about the French connection from reading the this site on rootsweb and thought maybe some one knew more. I also thought had Esther's genealogy 'done', and now I think it is far from done as perhaps Mason was Masson , French and not English as I had believed....so starting over with her. Thank you for responding, Kaethe
Kaethe, These people were discussed on this list back in 2006. Unless you are already aware of that, you can search the Rootsweb archived messages, and you will find a thread back then. In 1870, I think your people were in Boston, with three children, William, Ellen, and Emma. In 1880, there was an Esther Parow, 47, married, seamstress, in Palmer, MA. She was boarding with 19 y/o Emma, who worked in a cotton mill. Edward was not with them. In 1880, there was an Edward Parrow, 48, married but with no spouse, born VT, residing in Watervliet, Albany, NY. I cannot find Edward after this census, but I think I have Esther in 1920. She was listed as Esther Barrow, or Parrow, widow, 87, b. VT, residing in Springfield, Hampden, MA, in the City Almshouse. If this was your Esther, her death date would be too recent for the record to be on line. And, unfortunately, the Springfield City Clerk's office is not the greatest about doing research. Nevertheless, it would be worth a try. As of a decade or so ago, they charged $10 for record copies. I don't know what it would be now. Good luck to you! I am looking for death info on my family, surname Parrow, that could have been Paro, Perault or any of those variations from the French. That is just a conjecture since I have read that many French passed back and forth from Quebec to Swanton. My great great grand father was Edward N. Parrow, born 1832 in VT......His wife was Esther Mason, also b. 1832, which could have been Masson at one time, who was also born in Swanton, VT. I can find no solid information their parentage. They both died in MA Thank you, Kaethe (KAY-tha) O. Maguire
Hi Everyone, I am looking for ancestors in Swanton, Richford, and Montgomery, Vt. My gg grandfather was born in Swanton, in 1827. His name was, Charles W Clark. I do not have his date of birth, only the year. He married, Allura Banister of Richford, Vt. in abt 1858. Allura was 17 at the time according to the 1860 census. His son, Lester C Clark, married, Lizzie Rowena Knight Dickinson, a widow, in Whately, Ma. on 1 Sept 1886. In the marriage banns, Lester listed his parents as Charles and Mary Clark. I sent for a birth record for Lester C, who was born in Montgomery, Vt., 18 Feb 1859. His name given at birth was, Charles Leicester Clark, 18 Feb 1860. I believe that Charles and Allura died in Montgomery, Vt. but I can find no records of either. Charles and Lizzie both died in Ma. I have Lester C's newspaper obit. Oh, how I wish I had been doing this research while my grandmother was still here to answer questions about her grandparents. Thanks for any info you can point me to. Anne
