Hi Erin, I just found my Canadian Grand Uncle Frederick W. BISSETT in the St Albans census for 1900. Unfortunately, the copy is soooo bad where his information is written that I can't read the name of his wife, nor his young son. He lived on Main Street in a rented house, but I don't know the number. Are you aware of whether there are city directories for St Albans? If so, what years, and are the possibly available through ILL or on line? South Texas is a L O N G way from Vermont. I also need to search for my GF's and GU's immigration information. Since they came from Huntingdon, Quebec, if their records exist they would be in St Albans. I'd be interested in knowing the address(es) for reputable researchers in the St Albans area who might help me pull this information together. Nor have I. Subscribed on the 5th of Sept. and followed w. an e-mail referencing an early settler of the county and the county's most famous athlete, Larry Gardner, who played on four World Champion Baseball teams (from 1912-1920 for the Red Sox and Indians) and no response (nor any thing relating to other families). Suggest we hold on for another two weeks and then (depending) unsubscribe. Hi Listers! Just back from a trip to Vermont. Had wonderful trip but didn't break down any brick walls. For those of you who e-mailed me and requested lookups, I will get to them tomorrow. If anyone posted a lookup request to the list please e-mail me privately as I don't have time right now to check the archives. I have the following CD's and will do lookups ~ please be brief and specific. Most importantly, please specify which CD # is to be checked. CD # 131 Veterans' Schedules: U.S. Selected States, 1890 CD # 160 State Index: Upstate New York, 1685 - 1910 CD # 401 Marriage Index: Selected Areas of NY, 1639 - 1916 CD # 402 Marriage Index: New York #2, 1740's - 1880's Remember, with any of these CD's they are just a "lead" to direct one to the original source for verification. As vacation is over and the "rat race" has begun, please have patience. Dot Searching in VT: POLLARD, IRISH, CONNOR, BLAISDELL
My gg grandmother, Sophia Lawrence, was b. at E. Berkshire, VT in 1834, dau. of Stephen and Rebecca Lawrence. An old newspaper clipping tells the story of their 60th anniversary, having been married 11/16/1812 by Thos. Fuller, Esq. at the residence of Capt. Charles Stevens of Enosburg. Sophia m. Daniel Knowlton of Wilbraham, MA in 1855. They had two daughters, Emma Frances (my g grandmother) and Hattie Sophia. Sophia d. in 1858 while giving birth to Hattie. Her husband, Daniel, d. in 1866 of diseases contracted during the Civil War. Emma was raised in Berkshire, by an Aunt, Hannah S. Lawrence. My grandmother's eldest sister told me stories of riding from Springfield, MA to visit her Lawrence relatives in Enosburg. She told me that the baseball player, Lawrence (Larry) Gardner, was relating to us through his mother, Nettie. She referred to her as "Aunt Nettie". My grandmother, Mildred Sophia (Keyes) Young, was invited to a baseball game in Boston by Larry Gardner. Any information relating to the family and ancestry of Stephen and Rebecca Lawrence would be greatly appreciated. PS--some years ago, I corresponded w. former State Rep. Merrill Perley and he thought Stephen's father may have been early Enosburg settler Elias Lawrence. Thanks much. Clyde Vanderbrouk

Trying to locate parents of Myron Nye Hickok b. abt. 1796. According to NY Census of 1830 he was born in VT. He married Eunice Cumings or Cummings of Addison Co and the removed to NY where they are found living in Malone, Franklin Co. in 1830 near Stephen D. Hickok and Sydney M. Hickok. Stephen D. was the son of Aaron and Deborah nee Kent of CT. It is thought that Aaron removed to VT and that is where Stephen was born. Other sons of Aaron include Oliver Otis who was father to William Alonzo father to Wild Bill Hickok. Oliver Otis also removed to NY and died in that state. Any and all help greatly appreciated. This is a major stone wall for me. Willing to share information that I have on Hickok family. Jim
