If you are seeking the specific marriage record I'm not aware of any sure way to get someone to search and copy it remotely for you. The VT records only go back to about 1855 with a very few before that. I've used death records and birth records after 1855 in VT to infer probable marriages that have ocurred in Canada. Many of the Quebec church records were copied/transferred to the Catholic archives in Manchester NH. (I know one of the marriages I'm interested in is with them.) However, I only found out about that source recently and have not had a chance to locate their actual address, even though I'm only 10 miles from Manchester! I doubt that they would do searches for you unless you know which church the marriage was in. (I see you are out in Wisconsin so its not very practical for you to visit them.) Maybe someone else has an idea. > -----Original Message----- > From: Audrey Growt [mailto:agrowt@execpc.com] > Sent: Saturday, December 04, 1999 10:23 AM > To: VTFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: MARRIAGE RECORD > > > HI, > I have been looking for a marriage record for Canadian gr gr parents
HI, I have been looking for a marriage record for Canadian gr gr parents to no avail. The time period would have been about 1830 give or take a few years. I wrote to the VT state records office and they had no record of their marriage. I think the family was Baptist at that time. >From other postings, it seems people have found a lot of marriages records in Highgate and Franklin. Can anyone please help me with other ideas. I have searched every place I can think of in Canada. The names I am looking for are Ebenezer Groat and Rhoda (Stone). She was the daughter of Simon and Anna Stone. Thanks very much! Audrey Growt
Hi Kevin, I found a John McClure in Guildhall, Vermont Essex County from the Vermont Historical Gazetteer by Hemenway. Vol 1 The town was chartered by Governor Wentworth, of New Hampshire, Oct. 10 1761. It was granted to Elihu Hall and 63 others. These original proprietors appear to have been residents of New Haven County and vicinity, in Connecticut. Their first Proprietary meeting was holden at New Haven on the last Wednesday of Oct. 1761. The first deed was given by John Blakeslee, Enos Todd, GilesDayton, Sam'l Mix, David Thorp, Joshua Ray, Gershom Todd, Titus Tuttle and JOHN McCLURE to John Hall, 5th, dated Nov. 6, 1761; but by whom the name Guildhall was given to this town is not know. There is a town or locality in England, near London, of the same name, and as far as known by us, the only one in the world.( I did not find anything on this name in Highgate area or Swanton) Polly Pmanosh@pwshift.com > Hi everyone, I have some info on some of my ancesters and I'm not sure how to > proceed. Hi Cindy, Information from Vermont Historical Gazetteer by Hemenway.(Lake Champlain) re: "Battle of Plattsburgh" Not sure if this is your John West or not but he is listed among other British officers killed or wounded during the invasion. He was listed as (Severely Wounded.) The names were published in the London Gazette of the 19th and 26th of Nov. 1814. Wish I could help more. I would like information about a WEST family in Franklin Co., VT. John WEST is in the 1810 Census for Swanton, Franklin Co., VT. with his wife and 3 young boys and 1 girl. I have sons Edwin (1805), and Lucius (~1807), I believe Edwin and Lucius were both born in VT. I do not know the names of the other children. I have his wife listed as Wealthan, or Wealthen, but I am not sure if that is a first or last name. I believe this family left VT before the 1820 Census. They moved west, and Edwin and Lucius married (two GARDNER sisters from NY) in OH. I have information on the descendants of Edwin and Lucius, but I would like information on the other two children ... especially the other son, and more information on his wife. Does anyone have information on this Family? Can anyone tell me where I might find vital records for Swanton, Franklin Co. from 1800 to 1820? (I live in Oregon) Thank you, Cindy

I am having some major confusion about a town that my ancestor settled in. Can anyone tell me if a town that was originally called "Keyes Falls", then later "Potter's Falls" is now the town of Highgate Falls? A 'cousin' sent me some pages form the "The Vermon Historical Gazetteer", Volume II, page 272, it reads: "ANDREW POTTER one of the earliest settler, removed from Clarendon to St. Albans Bay, thence to Keyes' Falls, which were then naemd, after him, Potter's Falls, and for a long time bore that name; he built the first mill in town; his daughter , 14 years of age, was the first female in that section, she afterwards married Elkena Albee." Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to find which cemetery that Susannah Albee (Andrew's daughter) and possibly her brother's Anson, Edward and Cyrus may be buried in. Andrew and some of the children migrated to Bangor, Franklin County, NY about 1807. On page 273 of the above name volume, Susannah is stated to be from the Congregational Church, so that might narrow cemeteries down. Becky Frank beckybea@juno.

Hi, I am still trying to find the marriage record for grandparents who married 1830-34. I wrote to the state department and they said they had no record. Would any of the LDS films have marriages not recorded at the state level? I am guessing they were married in the Baptist faith. Thanks for any help. Audrey
