    2. Pauline Manosh
    3. Hi, Just a little information here: >From Hemenway's Vermont Historical Gazetteer Worcester, Vermont Vol. 4 pg. 912 (Francis Wooster, with E.L. Hall, an old California miner, commenced gold mining in Worcester in 1875, on a small stream called Minister Brook, and took about $700 worth of gold from this mine, enough to pay their expenses, besides building a 1000 feet of sluice-boxes and in other ways preparing for 1876. During the past winter they have formed a company for carrying on their work more extensively, and will employ a large number of hands. They have leased nine farms lying on the same stream, for ten years. (Granby, Vermont Vol. 1 pg. 987 This town was named, tradition says, in honor of Lord or Earl Granby, and was chartered Oct. 10th, 1761, by King George 111 to Elihu Hall and 63 others.* (Francis Wooster jr.;) (Bloomfield, Vermont) Vol. 1 pg. 950 This town is situated on the Connecticut, River; and is bounded W. by the unorganized township of Lewis, N. by Lemington and S. by Brunswick. It was chartered by Gov. Wentworth, June 1762, under the name of Minnehead. The grantees were 63 in number* (Thomas Wooster) (Essex County) Extracts from Eben Judd's Journal (Sept. 6th, 1786) we are indebted to the Editor, who copied them from the original journal now in possession of Henry Stevens, the veteran antiquarian of the State: (Excerpt) Oct. 5th . This day had a meeting at Wooster's. Maj. Wildermad, Joseph Holdbrook confused the whole meeting and conducted in a scandalous manner; was for having Whitelaw's survey or location all broken up, and all our allotments, and said he was ashamed of such conduct. The meeting was adjourned until the next day, and the settlers of Maidstone sent for." (Oct. 6th) Another meeting at Wooster's--Holbrook continues to abuse the meeting and comes near breaking up the allotment." (Oct. 9th) Surveyed on side of the river in Maidstone. Just at sunset met a company of men on a piece of land that Mr. Shoff lived on. They held our cain-men, and said if we went on they would break our heads. We returned to Thomas Wooster's (We went on with our work until the 13th.") (Maidstone, Vermont) Vol. 1 pg. 1027(By Hon. Moody Rich The proprietors were zealous in their endeavors to promote the settlement of their lands. From the record of their meeting held March 18, 1779, I take the following. Excerpt: and they also appointed Joseph Holbrook and Arthur Wooster a committee to locate the corner boundaries of the township upon the river; and it was also voted to give them $10.00 each, besides a reasonable reward for their services, as an encouragement to their going up to the Great Coos the ensuring summer with a design to accomplish this work. And in the May following they were directed to take the advice of Col. Bailey, and if he thought proper and necessary, in order to obtain a new grant, they were empowered and directed to survey the whole township. This committee never accomplished the business for which, they were appointed. Mr. Holbrook fell in disgrace, was a source of much vexation to the proprietors, who, after years of forbearance, Voted, never thereafter to trouble him with their money or any place of trust.* In December 1774, the proprietors allowed to Arthur and Thomas Wooster each 100 acres of land. as a reward for beginning a settlement in Maidstone in 1772, agreeable to the before-mentioned vote. 2. David J. Ellis
    3. You could try the VT vital records. Highgate was one of the towns where I've found them to report records earlier than the typical 1850/60 cut-off. Do you know the married name? If so, check the Federal Census records for that surname in the town she is believed to have lived. Records for 1850 and 1860 contain names and ages, together with the actual day that the data was collected. By comparing data from several years, you can narrow the birth date down to a few months. The Federal Census records can be seen in Waltham MA, on Trapelo Rd. That's only an hour or so from Plymouth. I think they are open Wednesday evenings till 09:00 pm. > -----Original Message----- > From: Kafuey [mailto:kgsowdon@capecod.net] > Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2000 1:18 PM > To: VTFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: (VTFRANKL) Birth Information circa 1820 > > > I'm hoping some kind soul will have a suggestion for me. 1. RE: Maro Virgil Bingham
    2. David J. Ellis
    3. VT didn't really start recording birth, deaths and marriages until sometime between 1850 and 1860 although I've found quite a few isolated instances of records back as far as 1800. They are not available online. The State of Vermont keeps microfilmed copies of all the records in the state repository in Middlesex, 10 miles west of Montpelier. There is also a copy of records before 1904/08 in Manchester NH. The microfilm was made from mostly handwritten copies of the originals that were transcribed onto file cards. I've found a few that were different than the original record held in the town offices. If you know the name and approximate date, the office in Montpelier will look it up and send you a copy for a fee. I've heard them taking orders over the phone when I was there. Not sure what the fee is. If you are there yourself, its $2 per copy. I would expect there to be an additional handling fee if you phone or write. Divorce is same place. > -----Original Message----- > From: RICHARD CARTER [mailto:rcar37@prodigy.net] > Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2000 10:44 AM > To: VTFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Maro Virgil Bingham > > > Seeking information on Maro Virgil Bingham, son of Solomon, > son of Solomon. > Maro born 6-18-1792, at Tinmouth Vt. 3. I NEED HELP... I am seeking any information on Parentage of John Bingham, born 1824, perhaps in the Frelighsburg, St ArmandEast, or Clarenceville, Quebec area. I have conflicting reports. One says he is the son of Maro Virgil Bingham, Son of Solomon Bingham Jr., while the other says that she has no knowledge of there being such a son. Both pieces of information are from people who should know. So, therefore, I dont know which to accept. I am inclined to go along with the first statement, that he is the son of Maro. It would be nice, however to have proof. I am also seeking any information on a marriage between Arthur Charles(Carol) BINGHAM and Augusta Sylvia Larson. Probable marriage date abt 1905. Location, ? Perhaps in the same area as above. Perhaps in Vermont. Arthur was son of Peter Bingham and Mary Bushey(Boucher). Dob on Arthur, 10-9-1880, in Swanton. Milton, Highgate Vt. area.I am seeking her parents names, if a marriage liscense is available. Also, I am looking for any census information on Augusta Sylvia Larson, dob abt 1885 in Goteborg, Sweden. I do not know who parents were, but, from naming patterns in that era, I might look at Augustus, or August Larson. If anyone has access to 1890 or 1900 census records, I would appreciate a lookup. Also, one last request... Can anyone tell me if Charles translates to CAROL in French. Arthur is listed as Arthur CHARLES on records, and as Arthur CAROL in church records at his Baptism. His son remembered him as Arthur Charles. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as we have been seeking this information for about 30 years. -- Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net

    3. Hello Listers, I received the following request and the author has given me permission to post it on the list in hopes any of you might be able to help him. Please respond directly to Paul. Dot ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm Paul Zeller and I'm in the process of writing the history of the 2nd Vermont Volunteer Infantry Regiment and request your assistance in locating any letters, diaries or photographs of member of that unit. This work will be about the experiences of the common soldier, not the generals or their grand strategies. I'm trying, as much as possible, to let the unit members tell their own story. I have exhausted all the resources at the University of Vermont, Vermont Historical, local Vermont historical societies, Library of Congress, and National Archives. If you posses any of the aforementioned articles and would allow me to use copies of them I would be greatly appreciative. I will fully reimburse you for your expenses. The book will be thoroughly footnoted and any document used will be credited to the owning individual.
