Is anyone living close enough to St. Albans to volunteer a library lookup? I hate to ask but if anyone is living in or around St. Albans and gets to the library could they check the McLellan Collection for the Brooks or the St. Albans Point cemetery (both cemeteries will be in one of books 32, 33, 34, or 35). Uri Sisco (probably b. 1800-1810 may have d. bef. 1850) Enos P. Sisco (b. abt 1825 may have d. bef. 1850) Ruby/Roby (Pollet/Potter) Sisco (b. 1805/1807 d. aft. 1850) Lavina A. (Boomhower) Popple/Sisco (b. abt. 1819 d. 19-Apr-1886) I have unconfirmed information that Lavina is in St. Albans Point. The Brooks cemetery has: Lucius Sisco (b. 1826 d. 31-Jan-1850) and I'm hopeful other family members may be nearby.
Does anyone have a copy of the book "Descendants of Thomas Bingham of Connecticut"? I cannot find a copy locally, and I am wondering if anyone would be kind enough to scan and send, or copy and snail me a copy of the part dealing with Thomas,Thomas,Jabez,Solomon,Solomon,Maro V., John, Peter, and Arthur Charles, and Roland. It would be greatly appreciated, because I know that I am asking a lot. I have asked both of the Major Librarys in Indiana, and neither have it.Thank you very much.=== Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
>From Hemenway's Vermont Historical Gazetteer Vol. 2 pg. 812 (excerpt) Bates Turner was born in Canaan, CT; in October, 1760, of respectable and pious parentage, from whose example and precepts he early imbibed those religious impressions, and that sacred regard for the rights of his fellow-men, which he never ceased to cherish through his after life. Deeply participating in the sense of wrong and oppression which pervaded the public mind at that period, he entered the army of the Revolution at the age of 16, and exposed himself to hardships and dangers, in defense of the liberties of his country. At the close of the war he entered on a course preparatory to the profession of law; to the duties of which his subsequent life was devoted. He attended the celebrated law-school at Litchfield, then in charge of Judges Reeve and Gould; , after pursuing the usual course of study, was admitted to the ar, and soon after removed to Vermont. He married about this time, Mrs. Persis Humphrey, who lived near the city of Providence, R.I. He first settled in Fairfield, in the year 1796, which place it was then supposed would be made the shire-town of the county. In 1798 he removed to St.- Albans, and in 1804, formed a copartnership with Asa Aldis, which continued but a few years; and Mr.. Turner removed back to Fairfield. In 1812, he moved to Middlebury, with the purpose of establishing a law school in that place, not receiving adequate encouragement, he returned to Fairfield. In 1814 his wife died; and in 1814 he removed to St. Albans. Soon after this he married Mrs.. Sarah Webb of north Hero, a lady of uncommon excellence, who died Aug. 1839. In the year 1827, and again in 1828, he was elected a judge of the supreme court. He died April 30, 1847 at peace with God, and in charity with all men. Polly Pmanosh@pwshift.com
Hi List friends, I have been getting an increased amount of "get rich quick schemes" spam, as well "buy our software" spam. I checked with my server to see what could be done. The answer is simple: forward the spam to that person's server. Eliminate the persons name, and replace it with abuse. For example: one I received yesterday was from >From: 1889@myrealbox.com, entitled Hot CD Rom. (I can just imagine!!) I hit the forward key, and sent it to the server: abuse@myrealbox.com This one did go through to a server, but another one came back as no such server. The reason I am posting to the lists is that none of the e-addys in the body of the letter were familiar, except that two were to nantucket area. If any of you received this, I would suggest you report them also. One complaint might not do much, but I would hate to see our lists spoiled by e-mail addy poachers. Kathy Parkinson
After my inital roll call, I saw another roll call for a Westcott. After we spoke, I have some new leads that may work out. Here's the "Cliff Notes" version. EUGENE CHILSON born 1846 in West Enosburg moved to Rutland County at age 4. He lived with EPHRAM BLISS then at the age of six moved into home of JEREMIAH WESTCOTT in Castleton. His best friend, found in a letter to the War Department, was SAMUEL P. CURTIS. The Westcott family researcher provided the following: A Jeremiah Westcott (1821-1868) married a HELEN PARKER. On the same page of records, Jeremiah's sister CLARISSA WESTCOTT married SAMUEL PARKER CURTIS. They lived initially in Clarendon then moved to Castleton where both died. Their son was Samuel Parker Curtis Jr. who married AMERLIA PEPPER. So... That looks like a perfect match. My grandmother, Eugene's daughter, is Helen A. Chilson and there is no Helen on the maternal side of the family!! I would like to talk to anyone who may have a remote connection. This simple roll call has accomplished more in one week than 4 months of web surfing. Search ON..... Colin B.

I'm trying to locate a Cummings family from Canada without success, and while its a slim possibility, I'm interested in any possible leads. I have Austin Cummings b. abt. 1785 Canada m. Augusta b. abt. 1786 William Cummings Caroline Cummings b. abt. 1832 Canada d. 02-Feb-1897 Hebron NY m. Alexander Strong 1849 Canada (Alex b. abt. 1830 France) Austin Cummings I have considerable information on Caroline's family but have not managed to confirm or extend her siblings or ancestors. While I believe that 'Canada' refers to 'Quebec' in this situation, I have no idea which part of Quebec. None of my Cummings or Strongs have shown up in the commoner protestant references for the Eastern Townships nor in the Catholic 'Blue Druins'.

Hello Listers: My wife's Franklin County connection is David Wright. Born in Templeton, MA on 26 Sep 1763, to Ebenezer Wright 3rd and Lucy Barrett, he married Maria Ann (or Maryann) WARNER in Templeton (Worcester Co.), and had at least 6 children there between 1788 and 1798. The next information I have for him, based on family lore, is the birth of his daughter, Lucy Barrett Wright on , 1810 in Bakersfield. The gap between the 1798 birth and 1810 birth leads me to believe there were other children, b. either in Bakersfield or Templeton. I did not find him listed on census indexes for either MA or VT in 1800, but he is listed in 1810, 1820, and 1830 in Bakersfield. Family lore says he died 8 Feb 1836, and is buried in Hinsdillville Cemetery in Franklin Co. I would be interesting in verifying the birth of Lucy Barrett Wright, either by vital statistics or church records or something. I would be interested in knowing if David and Maria had other children in Frainklin Co. between 1800 and 1810. I would also be interested in knowing if there is a Hinsdillville Cemetery in Franklin Co. The name is kind of strange, and I suspect this is one item that family lore got wrong. Best Regards, David A. Todd, Arkansas, USA datodd@arkansas.net

I am researching COL ELISHA (b.1740), GEORGE (b.1766), GEORGE JR (b.1803). George Jr. went to Wisconsin, from Enosburg, in about 1840. He married LUCY BELL before 1825. I am trying also to find Lucy Bell's parents. According to Census Records Lucy Bell was born in New York. I found a Richard Bell who married Sarah Nelson Sheldon, not sure of the date. Debbie, I just heard from one of my Canadian friends and he is on the Quebec list. He said that others had asked the same question and the answer to that was that Mascouche was shortened to Masco. It does make sense, I suppose, but confusing to those of us who did not live in the 1800s. Betty Debbie Carter wrote: > Betty > I have heard of MOSCAR in dealing with the families in the Franklin co area > who were born in "lower canada", but not the MASCO that you mentioned. > This could be the same place and just be a dialect/spelling problem. > Sorry I couldn't help more. > Debbie
Have any of you on the list run into the town of MASCO, P.Q., Canada in researching your families? I came across the name of the above town in researching the Root line in Swanton, Vt. Saw 3 others coming from the same place that were not connected to the family. I cannot seem to locate that town on any maps of Canada that I have. Betty
