Hi - the reason I subscribe to this message board is because I am looking for info on a William C. Brooks and Sarah W. McFarland who supposedly lived in Franklin, VT. Their son who came to Maine and joined the Civil War from Maine said he was born in Franklin and had gone to school there and in Canada. Your entry for Joseph Lahue and Lucy Brooke just gave me some hope - although it is Brooke not Brooks. Hoping someone can help me find my elusive William and Sarah and any other family. An old letter said they may have had a daughter who married a man in the Canadian government. William Curtis Brooks who came to Maine was born March 16. 1826. Medor b: 1883 in Swanton m: 22-Nov-1905 in Swanton d: 1943 It has a Charles about the right age and the same name mother but the father does not match. "Vermont Marriage Record, 658, Marriage reported by Swanton VT on 22-Nov-1905 between Rose Medor, resident of Swanton VT, age 22 and Charles Bushey, resident of Swanton VT, age 25. First marriage of Rose Medor who was born in Swanton VT, parents are Edward Medor = Matilda Bushey. First marriage of Charles Bushey who is a Farmer born in St. Albans VT, parents are Prosper Bushey = Elvira Gregoire." There's also a rather imprecise birth record for Charles J. that confirms the parents names. The Matilda Bushey, mother of Rose Medor, is the daughter of Frank Bushey and Emilie Greene.
I am looking for Victor (possabily Victory) Peters and his Wife Sarah. They had a son Ashley about 1845. I believe they migrated on to Wisconsin. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Judy

This might be just a little off subject but in regards to all of you I see posting with much frustration and getting no results, I thought some humor was in order. I saw this last year on another list and just laughed. It relieved much of the tension and headaches(from the brick walls) so I hope it gives someone a laugh also. I have thought so very many times of writing an open letter as follows! LETTER TO MY ANCESTORS After spending a frustrating evening pouring over illegible handwriting in badly damaged and out of focus parish registers - and still NOT finding my relatives, I thought it was time to send an open email (at www.ofcoursethereisaHeaven.com) to all my "Upstairs" relatives who have gone to Heaven (99% of them) or the Other Place (1%). The text follows. (Feel free to insert your own relative's names where appropriate.) "Dear __________________: I am your _____________ and living in the early 21st century here in___________, ______. I am sitting in front of a microfilm projector (I'll explain what that is in a later email) in a special library run by the LDS (nice people, but later on them, too) trying to decipher the small and shaky handwriting of your parish's minister/vicar/curate (choose one). He must have been either vertically challenged or had palsy - because it's unreadable! At least I think it's your parish! I'm not even sure of the decade. Thanks for leaving such a good paper trail! (Sarcasm intended.) According to family legend, you and your wife ___________ had _____ children, some of whom lived beyond infancy. Yet not a single one was recorded in the parish records! I can't even find your marriage certificate. You two WERE married, right? Didn't you know that there would be legions of people like me fanatically spending their waking hours and small fortunes looking for any and all traces of your lives? Were you just stubborn, couldn't afford the fees, or not members of the Established (or any) Church? You're wondering, "What's all the fuss, we're dead as doornails?" We're not sure, but I think down here we're infected with the same disease: Rootsus obsessionus. Of course, WE are going to leave better records for our descendants! Anyway, I'm glad I was able to vent my frustrations upward. If I couldn't do that, I'd have probably popped the obnoxious researcher next to me who is right now translating an old parish record in German - and out loud, for Pete's sake! I have an idea.... When I'm "dead-on" (pardon the expression) to finding the correct record, give me some sort of sign. Make the projector bulb flicker twice. Or, if it must be done in the privacy of my home, I have a Labrador Retriever. Talk through her. That will get my attention for sure. Thanks for listening. I'll be better in the morning..... I'll be back at the library tomorrow night for Round 14, so catch me there. Sincerely, Your ________________, Debra Carter tara37@comsys.net

Hi all, Trying Debra's idea. Would like dates for marriages and births for the surname Lahue in St. Albans. Any Lahue since they will all belong, this is a limited line and unusual name. Thanks, Andree
Listmembers: I would like to propose a different type of Roll Call so to speak. If you would like to participate that is great. My theory is that alot of times you may have the names of the spouses, parents and/or children. But what you might lack are simply "a birthdate, or a death date or a marriage date".You might have in your files, everything about "who" they were and "where" they were, but nothing on the specifics of "WHEN" they were. To make this as easy as possible place in the subject line either: BIRTHDATES/DEATH DATES/MARRIAGE DATES Since, this is a County Mailing List instead of a surname one it might also help if you place something like: SMITH/DEATH DATES or GREENWOOD/MARRIAGES DATES. This might make it easier to scan the messages. Then just make a simple list of persons that you need this particular data on. Nothing else, just a list of names(first and last please), of course if this is a very common name put "child of" or some identifying item. This idea may sound rather odd, but I am trying to generate some activity on the list and help others at the same time. Others may have the dates you need. If this works well, maybe later we can do one for "spouses" or "burials". One final note: Please,Please post these to the list and not to me personally. Debra Carter tara37@comsys.net
While looking through an old book (pub.1874) that belonged to Byron Woodward (1845-1918), my great-grandfather's uncle, I found a flyer on which was printed the following: "SOCIAL & SUPPER at Jas. Woodard's, Samsonville, Wednesday Ev'ng., Sept 10, For the benefit of the East Berkshire Band Plenty to eat and lots of music cheap." There was no year listed but I know of a James Woodward (1834-1913) who was married to Sarah Ovitt and lived in that area. Does anyone have access to information about members of the East Berkshire Band? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Susan Woodward Spain
Okay, I have a question for everyone to ponder. In the 1850 census, town of Sheldon Vt, County of Franklin, on Page 302, house 260, we find Lewis Gero 52 M b. Canada Zaa 51 F b.Canada Antione 17 M B.Canada Mary 13 F B. Canada Jane 7 F B. Vermont This would be Mary Gero who married Peter Ryea of unknown Parents. On page 303, (next page) same town, same county,House 287 (quite nearby) we find: John Ryea 37 M B. Canada Mary 32 F B. Canada John Jr 15 M B. Canada Mary 14 F B. Canada Peter 10 M B. Canada Lewis 9 M B Canada Lucinda 7 F B Canada Edgar 2 M B Canada Now this is supposedly the family of John Baptiste Gregoire Ryea, Sr. However, the Peter in that family is not born until AFTER 1858, which is far off from this family. I understand Eleazer also was sometimes called Peter, but He too was born AFTER the 1850 census. The missing son in this census entry from the list I have below would be Augustin. Could Augustin be known as Augustin Peter, and therefore be one and the same? Would this be the reason we can find no other records for Peters birth? Would this then make sense that both Peter & Mary Gero's children, and the grand children of John Baptiste Gregoire Ryea, Sr are named alike? Would this also be the reason that these two families appeared from Canada in the same time period in the same town? Does anyone have records of Augustin's family that will disprove / prove this theory? any other thoughts? Isd anyone available for a volunteer lookup in Middlesex or Montpelier, for any of the following. Seeking birth , parentage, and immigration information on Augusta Sylvia LARSON, born 1884-1886, Goteborg Sweden.(She was 22 years old in 1907) It shows "Yetteborg" On the Birth certificate of one of her children. I have no idea when she immigrated to the USA or CANADA, or the port of entry. I only know she married Arthur Charles BINGHAM, about 1900-1904 in VERMONT, USA, or LOWER CANADA (Quebec). I have been unable to find any information on her. Can anyone help. This was my wife's grandmother, and her father remembered very little as his parents "Parted company" about 1912,at St. Albans, VT., when he was about 5 years old. He was the 3rd child born to the couple. One was born 7-15-1905 and died 8-30-1905, one was stillborn, 5-10-1906, and my wifes father Roland Arthur, born 7-14-1907. I do not know if the divorced, or she died, returned to Sweden, or remarried. I do know that Arthur Charles remarried by 1913, where not known. Can anyone in Sweden, Canada, or USA help me. I am desperate. Will even take WILD EYED GUESSES. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
