Kate -- You should take the time to go the the city library in St. Albans. Anyone there can direct you. There you will find the McClellan indices of cemeteries. McClellan indexed many Franklin Co. cemeteries. You may save yourself a lot of time. Afternoon, folks...I'm hoping SKS might be able to help me out. I'm planning a Vermont trip next week - my very first genealogy 'roadtrip'!!!! I'm searching for the roots - or even simply extremely vague hints - on my gg-grandmother - Sarah Ann Lavarnway as supposed born in Highgate about 1824. She married Isaac Luther Newton (who was born in Canada) and, since I'm unable to find their marriage elsewhere, it may have been in Highgate. I'm looking for the names of cemeteries around Highgate that I can search and would also like to know where in Highgate (or elsewhere) I might find any records for that time period. Almost forgot - does anyone know of any campgrounds in the area that take RVs? Any help would be most greatly appreciated...as is your time and effort. Sunny day to you all ..... Regards, Kate Sowdon Kgsowdon@capecod.net
Does anyone know if any records from the Sheldon Poor Farm exist, and where they might be today?? Has anyone ever worked with Poor Farm records to see what might be contained therein. Since the Poor Farm burned down several years ago, the only thing left is the cemetery, beautifully restored within the last few years. Located about 2 miles south of Sheldon Springs on a dirt road.
I am looking for Joseph Garrett, b. ca. 1827; in 1861 he was at Sutton, PQ, then for a while afterwards resided at St. Albans. By 1870 he was in W. Milan, NH. Afterwards, he moved back to Vermont, resided at St. Johnsbury before moving back to Franklin Co., VT in the 1870s to Franklin/Berkshire area. He disappeared by 1880 leaving his wife and large family. I have tried town, state vital records, attempted church records. No mention in county records. I have found some descendants used the surname Grenier, which I believe is a 'dit' name for Garrett.

Hi Dick Have you written to each of the town clerk offices for a search of their records. You have the approximate dates and the records are easy to lookup. They charge, by law $2 for photo copies so send them an sase with your request. They may not charge for just a lookup if they find nothing and that way you can eleminate the town. Good luck earl

Just a note to everyone as we approach the summer season of vacations. If you will be away from your computers for an extended period of time please, unsubscribe during that time. The Rootsweb system is set up to take you off the list after 3 bounced messages, which is what happens when your mailbox is full. So you will get removed from the list anyway.
