I take it the "replys" do not come back through the list. I received some information on Nelson Boyd and will post a couple more names..... Hannah Colgrove, she was born in Vermont about 1820, she was married to Nelson Boyd. Hiram Boyd, any information on him? This is Nelson's father. Thanks in advance. This is in response to Debbie Jennings call for a "Roll Call." Excellent idea Debbie! I am researching Westcotts and Riches in Franklin County. I am stuck at John P. and Abigail (Rich) Westcott, b. 1807 and 1809, respectively, according to their headstones and unconfirmed, and where I know not. They had four children, two of whom are buried next to them in the Egypt School Cemetery in East Fairfield, and both of whom I am sure produced no offspring. My gggrandfather was Hiram Nichols Westcott, married Silvia Miranda Isham. They are both buried in the St. George, Chittenden County VT cemetery, along with numerous Isham's and other in-laws. The last child, John Albert Westcott, married in Vermont, but then moved across the border to Glen Sutton, Eastern Townships, Quebec. He had only two children that I know of, Effie and Harry J. Harry came back to VT for a while, but his offspring are in Canada, and I haven't been able to contact them, although I'd certainly like to. Harry had three children that I know of: Earl Westcott, d. 1973, Carleton Ross, died very young, and Velma Irene, b. 1913, d. 1991, and married Romeo Oliver Cushion. I know nothing of Effie. I am, first, trying to push my family tree backwards beyond John P. and Abigail; second, and partly to find more information backwards, I am trying to flesh out my tree forwards, to the present day. I feel certain that there are many relatives alive today that I have not met. My webpage holds some of the other branches of the tree, and can be found at: http://home.san.rr.com/wescotts/ I just yesterday discovered a Lyman Westcott in Highgate, Franklin County, in the US Census of 1810, the only Westcott listed in the county, and he is shown having two young children, which would match my John P. and another child. This Lyman does not seem to match up with any of the Lyman's listed in the extensive Stukely Westcott line. That's it. Next! Doug
Nelson Boyd born VT about 1812. St Albans 1840 to 1850 that I know of, I have the 1850 census. Does anyone have a Boyd family in this area and time period where he might belong? Parents or siblings. Listmembers: I don't know about where everyone else is, but in Indianapolis it is a blustery cold morning. About the time for me to really "dig" into all the little items I have stored all summer for my winter time research. Let's have a roll call. Please DO NOT send these to me personally, POST THEM TO THE LIST. As always, for the most effective posting please include: Who,When,Where, and most of all WHAT it is you are trying to find. Please try to make your subject lines as relevant as possible, and DO NOT just place "ROLL CALL" in the subject line. I am certain that we have had alot of new subscribers to the list since our last roll call, so dig out those queries and maybe we will make a connection. ROLL CALL Aloha All, Still looking for the marriage of my g-g-grandparents Joseph BLONDIN and Marieanne or Abigail LAFLAMME who raised a family in St. Albans, Cambridge and Georgia, VT 1840 through the 1870's. Jerry Lesperance, Aiea, Hawaii

Is anyone researching the family name FREEMORE? I'm looking for information about CAROLINE FREEMORE, b. 1831 in Swanton. I'm trying to track down her parents. Caroline married William Bessey and moved across the border to NY and then to Wisconsin. Kay Davis
Here's my roll call posting: I am looking for all descendants of Ziba DASSANCE (aka DAWSON) and Experience KEEP of the town of Franklin, Vermont. Although Martha Hanna Towle's excellent history of the town surmises that Ziba was a French-Canadian or descendant of a French soldier who remained in the colonies after the Revolutionary War, Ziba's father was actually a soldier in the French and Indian War and the Revolution (for Massachusetts). At least three of Ziba's brothers served in the Revolutionary War, including one who died in service in the Continental Line (and my ancestor who served from Keene, NH and moved to Shrewsbury, VT). Ziba was born approximately 1772 and would have been too young to serve. One problem with this group is that their name is spelled in numerous ways, including DASSANCE, DAUSENCE, DAWSON, DORSON, and DASSANCE. In my line (from Shrewsbury, Vermont), the name was uniformly DAWSON after about 1820. In the group that moved to Newfield, New York, the name is always DASSANCE. The Massachusetts family is always known as DASSANCE as well. The Franklin County family members who moved to Franklin County, New York are known both as DASSANCE or DAWSON and the names are interchangeable. Just to make matters more confusing, there is an Isle La Motte family named DAWSON who I believe are from England and not to be confused with the DASSANCE family. At any rate, I would like to hear from anyone who has this couple in their background. Some names associated are COBURN, MANLEY/MANLY, AUSTIN, CRAMPTON, GLIDDEN, WESCOTT, CARTWRIGHT, GLADDEN, DENIO, and CLOUGH. I look forward to hearing from you.... Does anyone have a transcription of the St. Mary's Cemetery? I would like to get the names and dates for any FREEMORE markers that might be located there. Kay Davis
snip<<<<<KayBDavis@aol.com wrote: > Does anyone have a transcription of the St. Mary's Cemetery?>>>>>>snip Response: According to USGenWeb, most of the cemeteries in Swanton have been transcribed. The transcriptions are available from the Swanton Historical Society, At The Library, Swanton, Vermont 05488. I'm sure if you write to them, they'd be happy to help you. I tried a search for FREEMORE on Rootsweb and one of the hits was St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton. However, the database is either down or has been removed. Good luck in your search. I have a list of some burial grounds in and around Franklin county. There is a Brewer cemetery listed in Highgate. I believe that the St. Albans Free Library has the grave stone inscriptions for this cemetery. If I remember correctly this is a very old cemetery maybe early 1800's? I have ancestors from this area and I believe I have looked at the records in the past. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Janice

I am researching the STIMETS family in Highgate, Vermont (starting about 1800). Family legend is that John Stimets (Johannes Steinmetz) was a Hessian soldier that settled in Vermont. A website for Highgate indicates that it was settled by Hessian soldiers who mistakenly thought they were in Canada, which seems to jive with our family legend. Does anyone have any information about the STIMETS family or Hessian soldiers in the area? Thanks in advance- Julie Burdey
Hi David, Thanks for your info re Early birth records in Vermont. I just sent for an LDS film for Swanton, VT Vital Records for years 1790 - 1823. So, hopefully, I will get what I am looking for. But I have a question. I thought Vermont State records are kept in Montpelier. I have a Canadian church marriage record from 1859 which says: "original record of civil marriage ceremony - 1849 - is on file in Montpelier, Vermont." (The couple were remarried in a church in 1859.) HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! Mimi Rhodes Hungerford Kailua, Hawaii Searching for HUNGERFORD > In southern VT records are much earlier than northern VT. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm at the LDS library once a week and never thought of ordering Vermont B-M-D records on microfilm. I'll check that out.
