    1. [VTFRA] FROM THE LIST ADMIN Re: VTFRANKL Digest, Vol 8, Issue 1

(Peter & Janice Lodge) ******* DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE IN ANY WAY THAT SENDS YOUR REPLY TO THE LIST! ******* There are two things seriously wrong with this post. First, that the message listed in the Digest is spam is obvious. RootsWeb subscribers are responsible for paying attention to what they receive and acting accordingly. Messages that are unexpected, contain nothing but a link (or maybe a little bit of generic text) and the usual added footers, are clearly and unquestionably spam. Such things require only that they be deleted UNREAD and be forgotten. Never, ever, click a link in such a message. RootsWeb has not found a way to filter these things without blocking legitimate posts, so it's up to us. When someone feels it necessary to inform the list that spam has been received, it just adds clutter to the list. This is against the list rules, which may be found at <http://home.sprynet.com/~darrellm/list_rules.htm> and which were included in your Welcome message from the list. See Rule #3. I have added this link to message footers for the list, which nobody ever seems to read :( but there it is. Second, the post in question quoted the entire Digest. This included the malicious link in the original spam. So now there is another copy in the archives. (Replies to Digests should ALWAYS change the subject line and clean out all the stuff that is repetitive and uninformative.) Nobody is being moderated and banned for now (except I had *already* moderated the compromised subscriber), but please let's let this one die the death it deserves. Back to genealogy. 3. Source, Vermont Daily Transcript-- Sept. 9, 1868. Page 3. DEATH OF MR. WEBSTER--Under our obituary head today, will be noticed the death of Mr. Samuel Webster of Fairfax. Mr. Webster will be remembered as the man who had his house broken open by burglars, and was knocked senseless by them about midnight sometime during the month of July last. The injuries which he received at that time, it is thought, were instrumental in hastening his death. Mr. Webster was a good citizen, and his loss will be greatly felt in the community where he resided. Transcribed by, Joan H. Bixby Courtesy of the Library of Congress.

Author: CrznBstn Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.vermont.counties.franklin/1669.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been researching this family for 20 years. Emery, as I now know, was Emery dit Coderre. For a time (a couple of generations) our branch went by the name Mariours. Mariours Emery dit Coderre was the Captain of the Militia at St-Ours (likely the "ours" part of the name). When I found Onésime Lacroix and found them all in the same parish, it satisfied the comment that was made that the two families were neighbors. Lacroix is a "dit" name for many other surnames. Just which one was very tough in tracking. However, once I discovered Onésime and learned it was Babin dit Lacroix, I had a much easier time of it. Joachim became Joseph in the U.S. and your Joseph is likely the Joachim whose birth record I am still missing. However, I do know that he resided in St-Albans and I know he married twice. Fortunately, after 1850 the census takers recorded all the names of each member of a household and the relationship to the head. Sometimes I found "boarder" but when investi! gating the "boarder" discovered there was a relationship. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Lisème Lacroix's ancestry I have just discovered recently. Her name was actually Onésime, not Lisème. Pike River is Champlain Co. When I have more time I will answer this more completely. I am rather confident now with the Lacroix line even though I do not have the names of her parents listed on a death record or in a marriage record (their marriage record has not been found as of yet). Joseph, as I mentioned, was listed in his brother's pension application and testified in order for Peter's widow to get the pension. At any rate, Joseph the younger appears to have been born circa December 1832 and to have immigrated to the US (St. Albans, VT) in 1834, however, I haven't been able to ascertain if or for how long his parents were in Vermont with him. Any information on this group would be greatly appreciated, especially if this Emery family is related to the Emery dit Coderre group in Quebec.
