The problem in Vermont, and possibly all rural states, is that many of the families (mine included) never went into town to record births, deaths, etc. As far as I know all records have been microfilmed that have been sent to them from the various towns. If the town didn't send them, you may have to resort to the town records--most have original records back to the 1700s. I prefer the unofficial copies xeroxed from the original books than the modern copy from Middlesex. Just my 2cents.
