Have noted comments about Vermont VR & Montpelier. Most of the town clerks offices have copies of their records if they exist--each clerks office varies but some I have been visited have burial records along with their town clerk records and most have card files. It may be worth while to write to particular clerk offices and enclose a SASE for a reply and if you want put in a $5.00 check for a preliminary check of their files. the smaller the town the more personal attention. have had less success with Brattleboro than Underhill, Thetford etc. While the county clerks have the court files, many of the town clerk offices have the original land record books.
