    3. Hi Nancy, I don't know where you live, but we're here in Arizona, born and raised in Burington,Vt. many moons ago.(haha) I have never sent for anything through the mail to Montpelier as far as records go. Our daughter and I went back in '92 and we went to Montpelier, but found nothing, and were advised to go to Middlesex, just outside of Montpelier, where we got copies (certified) and at that time they were $5.oo each. Now, I believe they are $7.oo-$10.oo. We had much better luck going to the City Hall in Burlington to the town clerks' office and were allowed to go in the back room where all the big ledgers were and had a 'ball' finding certificates and we copied them at 'NO' charge--it was so 'fun' and 'exciting' to see the Census of the Living and also, those who had died in our family and the dates, cause of, etc. I think you'd have much better luck at town clerks' offices and/ or city halls and/or Libraries, Federal offices, etc. My hubby and I went home to Vt. last year and did a few more certificates and also in '95 and they were charging $1.00 per copy, so maybe it got too hectic in that 'wee' room and all these genealogists running wild.(haha). Just wanted to 'share' our experiences and hope they 'helped' you in some "small way". Do you have any kin and/or friends who could do lookups for you in Vt. ? I don't, as my relatives are too old and our friends aren't interested in this genealogy thingy, you know ? So, we'll be going back home next year or possibly in the Fall again, and look for some more certificates. Best of Luck & Happy Hunting...! Joan P.S.--Nancy I did retrieve some Baptism and Burial certificates from one of the Catholic Churchs in Burlington, and the Episcopal church, also.... but when we went to the cemeteries where they said they buried my ggg-grandparents, they were nowhere to be found, and then we even went to 'all' the cemeteries in town, but to no avail--so next time, we will go to the diosese of both churchs, and find out what's going on and find out where my grandparents, from Ireland are ? Hopefully. Someone told me that sometime they are buried with other close relatives, underneath or on top of-- but have no gravestone, because of 'poorness' to even afford the burial in those days---I don't know...! Didn't mean this to be so long--hope you don't mind, but wanted to save you more money--'sending' and hope I helped somehow...they sure can send you on wild goose chases, sometimes...!! Sincerely, Joan Write when you can, if you want to.
