I had the same problem finding my grandmother's birth certificate, went to the town hall and found it there. Her name was added at a later date into the record and the day of birth was corrected. I suspect the town clerk at the time didn't have to, or was lax in sending vitals to Middlesex. BTW, my grandmother will be 101 in April. Also, even though your ancestor is buried in Charlotte, doesn't mean that he died there. Happy hunting.
