I am researching Westcotts and Riches in Franklin County. I understand that Franklin County was part of Chittenden County prior to 1800, so the parents of my targets may be listed there. I am stuck at John P. and Abigail (Rich) Westcott, b. 1807 and 1809, respectively, according to their headstones and unconfirmed, and where I know not. They had four children, two of whom are buried next to them in the Egypt School Cemetery in East Fairfield, and both of whom I am sure produced no offspring. My gggrandfather was Hiram Nichols Westcott, married Silvia Miranda Isham. They are both buried in the St. George, Chittenden County VT cemetery, along with numerous Isham's and other in-laws. The last child, John Albert Westcott, married in Vermont, but then moved across the border to Glen Sutton, Eastern Townships, Quebec. He had only two children that I know of, Effie and Harry J. Harry came back to VT for a while, but his offspring are in Canada, and I haven't been able to contact them, although I'd certainly like to. Harry had three children that I know of: Earl Westcott, d. 1973, Carleton Ross, died very young, and Velma Irene, b. 1913, d. 1991, and married Romeo Oliver Cushion. I know nothing of Effie. I am, first, trying to push my family tree backwards beyond John P. and Abigail; second, and partly to find more information backwards, I am trying to flesh out my tree forwards, to the present day. I feel certain that there are many relatives alive today that I have not met. My webpage holds some of the other branches of the tree, and can be found at: http://home.san.rr.com/wescotts/ I recently discovered a Lyman Westcott in Highgate, Franklin County, in the US Census of 1810, the only Westcott listed in the county, and he is shown having two young children, which would match my John P. and another child. This Lyman does not seem to match up with any of the Lyman's listed in the extensive Stukely Westcott line. Thanks, Doug Remember to visit The Hungersite every day. http://www.thehungersite.com
