Here is a section of text from my db that may be useful to you and possibly to others on this list. "He was in Scituate, RI,(later, Foster) at the time of the 1774 census, which indicates a family of 6 sons and two daughters. He would have been 42 at that time. He was also enumerated in Scituate, RI, in the 1777 Military Census of Rhode Island. On Oct. 2, 1779, Thomas and his wife, Bathsheba, sold 39 acres in Foster to his brother Benajah. On the 4th, they sold another 37 acres to his brother, Enoch, Jr., and on the 5th, 14 acres to his brother Rufus. They sold 80 acres on Cucumber Hill to Jedediah Pratt in 1779, as well. They settled in Bennington, VT, where daughter Nancy was married, and later in Clarendon, VT, where his daughter, Sarah was married in 1784, moving on to Hinesburg in 1785. Thomas was one of the original settlers of that town; Erastus Bostwick, in his"1861 History & Tales of Hinesburgh, Vermont," notes "1785 - Thomas Place from Road Iland and family to his Heirs." Job Place, eldest son of Thomas' brother, Benajah, later joined Thomas, who sold land to him in 1791. On 22 October 1791, Thomas sold land to Job Place "of Foster, RI." The deed was witnessed by "Benager" Place and "Sollomon" Place. Benajah Place, of Foster, was Thomas' brother and Job's father. On 24 May 1797, Thomas Place of St. George, VT, deeded property to Job Place of Hinesburg; George & "Agustus" Place were witnesses. It appears that Thomas never moved--that the St. George-Hinesburg town line was drawn through his property and he ended up on the St. George side of the line. I mention Job because he named one of his sons Lyman. You wrote: I recently discovered a Lyman Westcott in Highgate, Franklin County, in the US Census of 1810, the only Westcott listed in the county, and he is shown having two young children, which would match my John P. and another child. This Lyman does not seem to match up with any of the Lyman's listed in the extensive Stukely Westcott line. In closing, I'd like to mention a "teaser" in the Place family history. Enoch(2) Place, who died in 1703, probably in No. Kingstown, RI, left, in his will, "a cow to Cousin Mercy Westcott." If you or anyone else can establish the relationship, I'd be sincerely appreciative. John Folsom Orlando, FL
