For those who don't have access to genealogical libraries the internet can provide useful information if you search for it. While I cannot give the specific URL, the Vermont Gen Web page does provide the names of the various counties in the state of Vermont. It also gives the date which that county was formed. Clicking on the county of interest will usually provide a history and further information. Boundary disputes with NH and NY in the ealier years are too complicated to discuss here but adds another dimension to searching. In fact one of my "lost" relatives William Noyes b. 1789 listed his birthplace as VT in some places and NH in others. I have yet to find his parents or place of birth.
