Lowry, I don't have information on your Bellows family in particular, but visit the Sullivan and Cheshire Counties, NH archives for more Bellows information. There are sections in the Walpole and Charlestown family histories that are on-line. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nh/sullivan.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nh/cheshire.htm Michelle McKenzie MLMCKENZIE@prodigy.net USGenWeb host of Landgon and Walpole, NH USGenWeb archives manager of Sullivan Co, NH http://www.geocities.com/~mlmckenzie
This Bowe family had roots in the Alexander Bowe line in Masschuesetts in the 1650's. Then removed to Middletown, Co., removed to Vermont in the 1780's wehn Capt Daniel and brother Jacob Bow(e) were the early settlers at Pittsfield, Rutland Co. Daniel ran the tavern at Pittsfiled. later son Daniel Jr was postmaster and removed to Wisconsin. after 1844. In 1867, Louisa Bowe, a proable heir to O.? Bowe, and possibly Daniel Bowe jr. is living at Chittenden County, Vermont and has a mortage in her favor from Ole Olesen for land(in Wisconsin) she must have inherited or had an interest in. This land wasowned formerly by O?.Bowe and possible Daniel BoweJR. (now deceased). Daniel live across the road. Record search of any records in Wisconsin dead ends as a courthouse fire destroy everythingin the 1870's, including proabates and land records. An 1859 plat map shows this Wiscons land mentioned to be owned by O.Bowe and is right across the road for Daniel Bowe. Waht is the conenct? The answer has t lie in Vermont somewhere. Searching for a connection of Louisa Bowe and O.? Bowe. Who are they and are they related to Daniel Bowe jr? Possible that Louisa had returned toVermont if she ws married to O. Bowe. Wonder if this could have been Peleg Bowe, son of Daniel senior or John , both brothers of Daniel Bowe Jr. The last we know of either is they are at Pittsfield in 1843. John probably came to Illionios or Wisonsin but he is lost. Could Louisa Bowe be Seraph Bowe, who was supposedly a daughter of Daniel jr. We have only specualtion of her birth in Vermont about 1832 and no record of her death or migration in Wisconsin. My family has lived on this area in Wisconsin for 150 years, and only recently have the old doucments turned up with this transaction. Those doucment being a mortgage and a satisfaction therof, to Louisa Bowe. (Do not know if that is a birth surname or a marreid name) notized by A.J Howard, County Clerk, Chittenden Co, dated Nov 17, 1870 and Elmer Beecher or Bucher-Justice of the Peace who executed the docment signed by Louisa Bowe on Nov 15, 1870. The place where the justice of the peac was at in not readalbe, maybe Ninesberrys, Hinesberrys or Miinesberrys? It was fowarded to Wisoncisn and registered at the courhouse and then to anotherne of my family in Wisconsin, where it has sat in a box for 129 years. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You Rob Bowe
Hello List, I'm a "newbie" to you today but maybe I'm really an oldie because in finding your site, I'm fairly sure I've won the lottery. I have been schmoozing around in Bellows files in New England and New York and Ohio trying to to find "the" connection and you've been under my nose all the time. Here goes: Eugene Bellows (Bellus) (Bellew) m. Lucy Cline, Fairfax, VT Children: 1)Albert Parsons Bellows, b. Dec. 16, 1846 in Fairfax, m. Margaret Lowry Moore, b. June 4, 1845 in Randolph Co., GA 2)Rogene Bellows 3)Alfred Bellows m. (Unnamed) Flood 4)Almus Bellows 5)Alvin Bellows 6)Lucy or Lucinda Bellows 7)Alonzo Bellows (Bellus) 8)Harrison & 9)Hamilton Bellows, twins. Died in infancy. 10)Perry Bellows m. Carrie Dustin Tennant My branch is 1) Albert Parsons & Margaret Moore Bellows. Their daughter Mary Anna, the second of five children, (all born in Franklin, Lamoille and Chittenden) was my grandmother. I know that this family along with 10) Perry and one of the Als (which one? not Alonzo) all emigrated and were California Pioneers-well Pullman pioneers, settling in the San Joaquin Valley. Was anybody in Vermont & surrounds wondering what happened to them all? Or was it documented there? I have a bunch of records to share offline. Not complete by any means, but getting there. What I'm wondering is and need info on are the families that did not emigrate. Does anyone have knowledge of 2), 3), 4), 5), 6) and 7)? Eugene & Lucy? What were the ancestries? I know that Bellus can be Hungarian or Lithuanian, probably others. I know that French was a household language, and assume that Lucy was of Acadian extraction. Hoping to exchange. Regards, Lowry

Dear friends, I seek someone in the Chittenden County area to assist me - - if you please ? First: - I would like to acquire a copy of "Journal of Ruth G. Cushman", as published in The Chittenden County Historical Society Bulletin - Winter 1986. I, of course, will be glad to reimburse the supplier for photocopying costs and mailing costs. Second - I hope to be in Colchester shortly after Labor Day 1999 to pay my respects to the grave of my G.G.G.Grandfather Artemas Cushman, who passed on in that area 18 Oct. 1841. I will be most appreciative of anyone who can direct me to the correct cemetery - - and, of course, give me any of that vital local insight that is so valuable as descendants attempt to follow their ancestors tracks. Interested in contact with other researchers of the above surnames. I believe that the Irish family in which I am interesed was in Shelburne Twp. They married into both the Schoolcraft and Peabody family. Many moved to Franklin Co, NY then on to WI. Marilyn
Hi Barbara Charlotte has nine cemeteries--four of which are abandoned. Those abandoned were Ploof (5 graves), Marcotte (5 graves), Bradley (33 graves), Quinland-Sherman (16 graves). The largest cemeteries currently in use is Grandview, congregational with several hundred graves; Mt Carmel, catholic, ca. 250 graves; Morningside, baptist, ca. 450 graves. The Barber cemetery had its last burial in 1956 and has 200+ graves. The Thorp Cemetery has only 4 graves and the last burial was in 1916. I don't know the summer library hours, but the librarian is Diane Dolbashian, Tel 802-425-3864 By coincidence, I am speaking to the Charlotte Historical Society at the library this coming Tuesday, Topic: Picking the Brains of Genealogical Researchers--Dead & Alive. Hopes this helps. Mal Bevins BS433@aol.com wrote: > I would like to know what the cemetery's are in Charlotte, VT. And what the > library hours are. We are planning a trip to VT this summer. Hope to do ancestor searching while there. Hinesburgh ancestors were Joel Peck, b. 1764, (daughter Sarah Ann married Byron Alden in Hinesburgh 1827) and Rufus Alden. We have much Alden data, but know only (from Peck Genealogy by Ira Peck) that Joel had three wives. Who was Sarah Ann's mother? When did Joel die? He served in War of 1812. Lorraine

Barbara, I, too, am researching Chittenden Co VT. My Cornelius GREGG was born in Milton 1833. A delightful little booklet, "Milton's Story", 1763-1976, states: p. 4: As stipulated by the charter of 1763, lots were set aside for the first minister to settle in Milton, for the spreading of the gospel in foreign lands, for schools and for the Church of England. The legislature before 1805 transferred to schools the lots originally set aside for the Church of England. p. 7: The church at West Milton was built in 1831 at the top of the hill, now known as "Meeting House Hill", near the Paul Morgan home. It was thoroughly repaired and modernized in 1859. The expense was borne by the Methodists and by the Congregationalists and occupied by them on alternate Sundays for some years. As late as 1862 and 1863 peo-ple from Checkerberry attended services at West Milton. The original church had two rows of windows with side galleries and pews with doors that fastened with a button. Services lasted all day with a sermon both morning and afternoon. People brought their lunch or dinner and ate it, weather permitting, in the pine grove behind the church. The church was torn down in 1943 by Harley Perry, a local carpenter, but the bell may still be heard when it rings from the Episcopal Church in Milton Falls. p. 11 mentions a Methodist Church in Milton Boro. p. K has a picture with a familiar surname, Earl BEVINS. :-) Bev ---- BevLJ@Worldnet.att.net http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1329 http://www.angelfire.com/mn/weall/
