    1. FW: Irish Settlement in Underhill
    2. Meg McGowan
    3. Thanks to all who provided information on Irish settlers in Chittenden Co. For Charlene and others, I can provide this little additional information on the Irish Settlement in Underhill. Loraine S. Dwyer's, History of Underhil, Vermont contains this brief description: "It wasn't long before settlement started on the northerly roads out of the Center. As early as the 1820's two Irishmen named Doon arrived in Underhill and commenced the settlement we now call the Irish Settlement. When they came, they found Timnothy Burdick already here and in possession of a large farm. Then, in a surge of immigration came Brewins, Carrolls, Dorans, Flynns, Marlows, Cales, Shanleys, Riordans, Walls, Connors, McCanns, McGuinneys, Greens, Murphy, Hogans and many, many more." -- ---------- From: CRodri9794@aol.com Date: Wed, 17 Nov 1999 14:07:16 EST To: whitem@aloha.net Subject: Re: Irish Settlement in Underhill Hi could you tell me a little more about Irish road settlement, Underhill. Is it in Ireland or US, my ancestors also came from Ireland and I have never heard of this settlement. Of course I don't know that much about Ireland, my area is Limerick and Co. Clare. Thanks , Charlene Tobin Rodriguez

William Hebb emigrated from England, in 1838, and located in Canada, where he remained about three years, then came to Cambridge. 3. According to his obituary, my great grandfather, James Brown Richards, was born in Charlotte, Chittenden Co. Vermont in 1820. I believe his parents were John Richards & Charlotte Ward. I've never been able to find a record of his birth or any other information to verify the parents. I've contacted both the City of Charlotte and Chittenden County and they both say no records are available. Is there anyplace else I could look. City Directories? Tax Rolls? I'm in Arizona so don't really know what might be available there. Any help is appreciated. 1. Genealogy Query
    2. Bill Stinson
    3. Hi, Would appreciate it if you could provide some assistance. My GGGGrandfather, Robert Stinson, was born circa 1755. He lived in Bolton, Chittenden County most of his life. He served as the Bolton Township tax collector during the period 1797-1806. He was married and had 3 sons (William, Andrew, and Allen) plus 2 daughters whose names are unknown. I am trying to determine whether Stimson Mountain might have been named after my GGGGrandfather. The spelling of Stinson was often mistakenly written as Stimson in past years. It is my understanding that mountains were usually named after the person who owned the land at the location. Census records for 1790 and 1900 in Chittenden County show the name of Robert Stinson but no one named "Stimson." Would it be possible to check land ownership records back to 1790 to determine who owned the land where Stimson Mountain is located? Where are the old land records located if they still exist? Thanks in advance for any help that you may be able to provide. Sincerely, Bill Stinson P.S. Robert served in the Revolutionary War from 23 Sep 1777 to 15 Aug 1781. He was later appointed as an Ensign in the Vermont militia on 7 Oct 1797, advancing to Captain on 6 Apr 1804. Robert later sold his land in 1806 as he reached older age and moved to New York.
